      We feel 911 HAZMAT CLEANUP took advantage of our vulnerable emotional state following the tragic loss of our son to suicide. The incident occurred in our home, and to spare us further trauma, my elderly mother-in-law stepped in to arrange for hazmat services.
      She contacted 911 HAZMAT CLEANUP. In her extremely distraught state, she was presented with electronic documents and signed them without being given a written estimate or fully understanding the scope of the agreement. The digital form was confusing, and in several places she appears to have checked both “yes” and “no” — a mistake that the representatives overlooked.
      They claimed they'd remove and dispose of only contaminated items, they did confirm a few such items with her ( bedding and clothing from floor). The contamination was limited to a localized area on the floor. When we unpacked we found many valuable personal belongings from our bedroom closet; expensive camping, surfing, and diving equipment from the top shelf of the closet. These items were clearly not contaminated and were even visible in the photos taken by their crew.
      This gear took years to accumulate. Material things pale in comparison to the loss we’ve suffered, still, this felt like a violation during an already unbearable time.
      They charged more than $7,700 for 4.5 hours of work done by two workers in a van. Our insurance only covered $5,700. When we contacted 911 HAZMAT CLEANUP to express concerns, they denied any wrongdoing, reiterated the list of disposed items (which did not include any of the gear mentioned), and threatened legal action if we didn’t pay the full amount—stating that they could place a lien on our home.
      The contract appears to be heavily one-sided, with language that gives them wide discretion to dispose of any item they choose without recourse for the customer.
      We have also filed a report with the sheriff’s department, though we have little energy to pursue this further.
