I have been banking with manufacturers and trust for approximately 12 years. During this time I have been completely satisfied. Recently my home had been broken into my Wi-Fi, accessed and most unfortunately my banking account. The treatment that I have received from M&T has been despicable to think the bank that I have put so much trust in has no trust in me is a disgrace.. You cannot talk to the fraud investigating department. You cannot dispute them and you cannot explain. They would not allow me to provide them with a police report! I'm leaving and I am disgusted. Not only was my home robbed, my bank account robbed, My BANK ALSO ROBBED ME. Imagine a disabled WIDOW on SSD driving around the surrounding area (15 mile radius) hitting 5 different gas stations in the same day requiring the need for $500.00 in fuel. Ludacris, disgusting, discouraging, disappointing, and I'm out. Thank you. No thank you. I'm done.Review from John B

I just lost my mother a few months ago and was appointed the Administrator of her estate. On August 23, 2024, I emailed copies of her Death certificate and Letter of Administrator for estate to M&T probate office, also I went into the local branch office and gave them copies so I can transfer her money to an Estate account so I could sign checks and pay any debt off. My mother has a home equity line of credit that I want to pay off as Admin of her estate so after bringing her loan payments current (which I walked into the branch office to do) I call the customer service to get a payoff over the phone. I was told that they could not give me any information because my name wasn't on the account, I told them I am the Administrator for her estate they claim they didn't have any record of me as admin and to call the Estate office and submit paperwork that I already did a month ago. How could I open Estate account in her name without the proper paperwork, so I call the Estate office during business hours and as of now I have been on hold for 1 hour 52 mins waiting. I called customer service while waiting 1:52 min to tell them I have been on hold and is anyone in the office, customer service transfers me to the same line which put me hold again and then the line disconnected. I have been customer of M&T for a long time and if this how they deal with someone who has lost a parent I just want to pay off my mother’s debt I don't understand how you do not attach all necessary documents to her account for anyone who pulls my mother account to see. Oh, yes, I am still on hold 2hours and 3mins!M&T Bank Response

Sold my home on the 12th and received an email to review and provide comment on how I paid off my mortgage the same day (more evidence that my account has been closed). I called the bank that same day to verify that they would not be charging me for my normal mortgage payment (that would come out on the 15th) and I was advised that I would not be charged. I was charged for my normal mortgage amount today the 16th and was advised by the banker that she showed no debiting to my account and that if there was an error I would be repaid within two weeks. I have no way of verifying their claims so now have to wait an additional two weeks before I know if this has been another lie or not. Trusting a person’s word is everything and this bank has become untrustworthy.M&T Bank Response

M&T bank has held my money for over a month for illegitimate reasoning. A bank manager by the name of Donna (last name will not disclosed) filed a false complaint against, which ended in my innocence being proven and I still have yet to receive a check in the mail for my money nor is my account unlocked in order to access my money!M&T Bank Response

I had a private sale of an RV and the seller had a loan through M&T. I am so thankful the seller was a trustworthy person because this bank drug their feet about providing me the title for the RV I had purchased every step of the way. They received a payoff authorization letter which specified that the title would be sent to me to protect me as the buyer. They outright violated that letter and sent it to the original owner. They took well over a month to process the transaction and refused to speak with me or my bank when they attempted to reach out about the transaction. This was an over 10k transaction. At one instance I attempted to ask about the status, I inquired if they would give information to my bank and the response from the representative was we are not going to entertain hypotheticals. When my bank contacted them about the money they sent them for the debt I incurred for the asset they no longer had financial interest in, they still refused to even speak with them. I find this conduct extremely unsettling in a world where fraud is so rampant. Their staff is completely unprofessional and unhelpful. I completely understand refusing information to just some guy but between financial institutions is just insane. I could use all sorts of colorful words to describe them but the one star rating on BBB speaks for itself.M&T Bank Response

I had worse experience when I applied for home improvement loan. I applied loan application through Mr. Evan H***** after sending all information he made me in loop for more then 3 months never gave me straight answer and at end totally disappeared to let me know progress of the application I will never advise anyone to do business especially Mr Evan H*****.M&T Bank Response

M & T bank is basically scamming seniors. They take a payment, claim it arrives a day 'EARLY' then don't apply it to your monthly mortgage. They apply it to principal only, and start accruing Late Fees. Yes, late fees for paying early, only at your M & T bank! Since we all spend every day looking at the website for all 12 of our bills, we don't catch it for a while even when they speak to us on the phone. Let's keep that one quiet so these old people accrue about $800 dollars in late 'penalties'. They basically have a process in place, and unfortunately, its almost fool-proof. You appeal and appeal, and then you get the old excuse. "Weve sent it to the 'back room' and they aren't going to do anything. The back room...its like a cartel back there, or it doesn't exist at all. Either way, keep your eye on your bills from these gangsters. In a tough world with costs for seniors and risks and other concerns, a business like this allows this kind of system that cant possibly be accidental to go on and on. I think they just do NOT care about their customers, and are literally with this process taking advantage of people due to their age and or situation. I am so disappointed with M&T bank at this moment. I have been a customer for a few years. I recently moved to a different state and kept M&T as my bank due to having good experiences with them previously. I deposited a check via mobile deposit. Unknowingly, this locked my account. Talked to customer service and then received a letter stating that my account would be locked for four business days, funds available on day 5. The check is from my retirement account, i have had funds deposited from the company before with no issues. I get different answers from different people. I have even called my former branch in Dover, Delaware. I have been trying to get money and pay bills before anything gets declined due to my locked account. Being in a whole different state and unable to walk into a branch has been frustrating. I am so disappointed as I am loyal, hence my reason for staying. My check is not fraudulent, I have never committed or cashed any fraud checks. My money is being held hostage.So this is just a heads up for anyone that's thinking about switching to M&T!M&T Bank Response

Horrible experience with M&T: As a customer for more than 10 years with this bank, I opened a "MyWay Banking" account for my daughter who is a young adult, now attending college. She made a mistake, and was scammed- she unknowingly deposited a bad check from a 3rd party. The day following the deposit, she called M&T to explain the situation and was told the money would leave her account within a couple of days. It was removed the following day. Subsequently, M&T locked her account so she called customer service. She was told her account would be inaccessible for 5-10 business days. She called M&T on the 12th business day and shared her phone number with a representative who "emailed to the back office". No one reached out to my daughter. I visited a local branch to try to resolve the situation, as the primary account holder. I was never contacted by M&T. I was told that my daughter's account would not be unlocked, and she was ineligible to even open a new account because she was unreachable following the mistake- that was incorrect considering she called in multiple times. I was told that due to privacy policies I could not be contacted about her account- so what was the purpose of a joint account and her "MyWay Banking" account type then? I had no option but to close her account (since I was authorized to do that) because M&T refused to move past the mistake that was made and acknowledge that my daughter tried to rectify it. Neither she, or I knew her account was indefinitely locked and ineligible for unlock/new account until I visited the branch. She was without her funds for nearly a month and had to use her credit card for essentials. What she was told via phone completely conflicted with what I was told in person. I could have been notified to contact the bank without the bank providing any sensitive information but was not. M&T customer service deserves 0 starsM&T Bank Response

It is not private information to acknowledge and address the poor customer service that occurred, and the fact that on multiple levels M&T failed to communicate effectively internally, as well as to me, the account owner relative to my review in the first place. I will not be calling. Current and future customers, beware!
