    I paid $3174.16 for the full year. They canceled my policy after one month because it did not pass an exterior roof inspection. They refunded me $2,658.33. Part of their excuse is because my alarm certificate from SimpliSafe misspelled my first name so they removed that deduction. Instead of removing just one month worth out of my refund, they removed the entire year. They robbed me. This company needs to be shut down.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the opportunity to address this.  We did attempt to speak with the insured on the phone but were disconnected.  

    Firstly, both the first and last name are incorrect on the alarm certificate. Unfortunately, the alarm certificate could have been modified by the alarm company with the correct name, however, the reason for cancellation (roof condition) remains.

    Next, and this is very important, the policy of insurance was SURCHARGED the amount for the alarm credit ($98.98), but the insured never paid this surcharge. So when the policy cancelled on 3/5/2024, the surcharge was credited (a credit + a debit = $0.00). 

    The amount owed to the insured became $2695.35 (as noted in the review).  This was the policy premium less the fees and charges which came to $54.14.  The fees and charges are mandated at the State level and include the Managing General Agent Fee, the Emergency ********************* and the 2023A ******* Insurance ******************** Recoupment.

    The pro-rata amount is for the 55 days the policy was in force.  We did not take any additional money from the insured, and the refund to the insured has been cashed.

    Please note, as in all states, and like all insurers throughout the ***, during the underwriting period we review all aspects of a risk and if it is not acceptable, we will be unable to retain the risk. This was the case in this particular instance.

    We are sorry the above was not more clear for which we sincerely apologize, however, we do hope the above suffices to clarify the matter.
