I had an annual contract with Advanced Lawn ********************************************* for 3 services in 2022 that I prepaid for by check - Spring turn on of irrigation, Winterization of irrigation, and Back Flow Certification with the county. When the serviceman came to perform the back flow certification we (my wife and myself) were not at home, we had a medical emergency arise that morning with my son which required a trip to the *** My young teenage daughter was home alone. The serviceman arrived in an unmarked white truck. He rang the doorbell, my daughter answered the door and didn't know what to do - she didn't know him, he was in an unmarked vehicle and was asking for a key to the crawl space (which she didn't have or know where it was). She closed the front door and the serviceman called on the phone. She spoke with him and stated we weren't home and didn't have the key and couldn't let him in the crawlspace. (She didn't know who he was or what he was there for. In the commotion of that morning my wife and I had left the house in a hurry.) I have been on the phone with the company both yesterday and today explaining the situation that day in trying to resolve the issue - either a refund for the service not performed ($94.50), or credit/reschedule for this year so I can have the required certification filed with the county. They will do neither. I then asked to cancel our contract for this year (which I had also just prepaid for the same 3 services the day prior) and they begrudgingly conceded to cancelling it but then charged me a $35 cancellation fee. I don't understand why the service couldn't be performed on one of their other trips to the neighborhood during the winterization window, why they won't refund or credit me for the unperformed service, or why they didn't notify me of the unperformed service. And then to further charge a cancellation fee when I cancelled for this year - it all just feels like an unfair money grab on their part and bad business practice.
