Classic Homes built our house. A beam was installed in the house and a chandelier hanging from that beam when the house was constructed. The beam came loose, ripped though the ceiling, and crashed to the floor, along with the chandelier. We called the owner of Classic Homes who came to inspect this. The owner acknowledged the work was not done correctly and that he “had never seen a job done that bad” before. The beam is unbelieving heavy (solid wood) and was attached with regular nails and caulk. The owner of Classic Homes, Rick, said that our home wasn’t under warranty, but he acknowledged the work was not even performed reasonably well and said he was “surprised it held that long.” He agreed to “make it right” and “help us out,” but asked us to be patient as he had a lot of other construction jobs going on. After 3 months, we called Rick and he said he “hasn’t forgotten about us but was going to send someone soon to fix it.” We gave him more time then called a month later. With the holidays, we expected it wouldn’t likely be in December. January, month 6, still no repair. We called him yesterday to ask when he was sending someone out and he said he no longer felt it was his responsibility and wasn’t going to fix it. My husband reminded him that he already said he was going to fix it and stand by his work, and we have waited patiently for 6 months because he kept saying he was going to do it and to give him time. He said that he spoke to his insurance agent who didn’t think he was liable, so he wasn’t going to fix it (or keep his word.) The beam and chandelier would have killed a person (or child) standing under it when it fell. We have been extremely patient with Classic Homes about this, but are upset that Rick has lied to us about his promise to fix it and does not stand by his work. This is not an issue of wear and tear, but of pure negligence from the workers he contracted in building the home we purchased. We went and got a quote for the repairs of $2,500.
