    Assurance of Voluntary Compliance

    The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

    Newark, May 20, 2022 -  Acting Attorney Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs announced that they had settled their investigation into Glen Motors’  alleged consumer protection violations.   The company agreed to enter into the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance without admitting any violations of the CFA, Motor Vehicle Advertising Regulations, Sales Practces Regulations and Consumer Leasing Act.

    Glen Motors Inc,  agreed to a $90,000 settlement—which includes $66,088.98 in civil penalties—to resolve allegations that included failing to list the price of motor vehicles on its sales documents, failing to itemize aftermarket products or dealer-installed options, and failing to obtain consumer signatures on all sales documents.

    Glen Motors Inc. also agreed to enter binding arbitration through the Division’s ADR Unit to resolve all pending complaints from affected consumers and any additional consumer complaints received by the Division for a period of two years.

    A portion of the settlement amount will be suspended and automatically vacated provided the company complies with the terms of the agreement over a two-year period.

    My name is ****** ****, owner of 2013 Toyota Camry SE VIN# ****************** My vehicle shudders when I drive over 25 mph. On 19 April 2022 I took my 2013 Toyota Camry SE to the Glen Toyota dealership. After the diagnosis the representative stated that I needed a new torque converter. The cost would be $2902.30 to repair. After further investigation I discovered Toyota offered the Torque replacement at no charge under the Toyota enhancement warranty program. Under the extended repair program the torque converter was replaced at no charge for 8 years or 150,000 miles. My vehicle is currently under 150,000 miles and the 8 year mark occurred during Covid19 when businesses were shut down. The service adviser told me the dealership would not cover the repair. Under a normal situation this would be acceptable. Due to unusual circumstances related to Covid19, I am requesting that my vehicle's torque converter be replaced at no cost to me. I have uploaded the document to the Toyota Warranty Enhancement Program that explains the shudder while driving under light throttle conditions between approximately 25 – 50 mph. Also included is the service recommendation from the Glen Toyota dealership that shows the seriousness of this repair. Toyota cares about customers’ satisfaction and ownership experience. I hope that this experience will continue with this trend. Thank you.

    This is a warning to customers that have purchased a new vehicle which includes ToyotaCare. The program has been modified over the past several years and no longer includes 5 free oil changes as it used to. The worst part is that this Dealership did not inform me of the change to the program and let me use my 3 free oil changes within the first year of having my new vehicle even though this should not be allowed under the ToyotaCare program. When I went to bring in my car for its 4th oil change, I was told I would have to pay for the oil change and it was only at this point that I found out that the 2nd and 3rd oil changes I requested under the program should have been denied since they were performed too close together. The dealership made it seem like they did me a favor by allowing me to take my oil changes early when in fact it was a complete disservice since the 2nd and 3rd oil changes I received were not necessary and resulted in me having to pay for future oil changes. This is a complete scam on Toyota's part and they should be ashamed for allowing this to happen. When I called the Toyota **************** 800 number and explained the situation they said there was nothing that could be done to remedy this situation. I believe there are many other customers that are being taken advantage of under this supposed benefit program to the consumer. BUYER BEWARE... and be sure to ask how many oil changes are covered under the program before scheduling service with your local toyota dealership. Shame on you Toyota for not doing right by your loyal customers.
