We paid over $3,000.00 to rent a houseboat from Rainy Lake Houseboats for 4 nights. The fact that we left after just 3 nights speaks volumes. We simply didn't feel safe in our boat. The boat was in very poor repair with completely out of date technology & in serious need of maintenance. -After a short orientation we were left on our own in the bay. Before we could even reach a campsite they announced over the radio that we should not travel due to extreme winds. Why did send us out if it wasn't safe? -Their Navionics system did not work properly. It was grossly inaccurate & in desperate need of an upgrade. It showed we were driving the boat on land when we were in the middle of the lake! It was extremely difficult to locate markers & to find the poorly marked houseboat sites without functional Navionics. We ended up running aground twice during the 3 day trip. -When using the throttle lever the whole dashboard lifted up making it difficult to manage. -The engine oil on the boat was thick and sludgy in desperate need of an oil change. -The generator fumes inside the boat, especially in the back sleeping area, were so strong at times that we had to shut down the generator and/or keep windows closed completely. -There are no photos at all of the bunk beds on their website and the floor plan posted made it appear that there were 3 rooms with bunks. Instead it was open space like summer camp. Beds made out of plywood & 2x4's are not what I would expect for the price. It was not ideal for 3 adult couples!. -The screen porch doors didn't seal so the flies and mosquitos were able to easily get in. -When you sat on the couch you sunk down so far it's clearly broken. Considering that was the only comfortable seating to be had on board for 6 adults it left a lot to be desired. When we left we let staff know about many of the issues we had and I emailed them after we got home requesting a refund and received no response from the owners. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!
