I paid $175 for the First Aid and CPR program on 21/10/2023, scheduled for the 28th and 29th of October 2023 at their *************. I also bought a pocket mask for $21. On the 25th, the company wrote to inform me that the program in my chosen location was cancelled and offered me to use *********** if I wanted the same course or take another course in the rest of their location. Since the only course I wanted was now at Maple Ridge, I decided to take it while acknowledging that it was far. I came in an hour late due to excessively delayed public transport on one of the days, and the instructor asked me to contact the office to reschedule me for another session so that I would not be able to join the class. I reached out to the company to reschedule me, and I was asked to pay for the program again when i have not partaken in the class I paid

This business is notorious for terrifying teenagers out of becoming lifeguards at a time when there is an extreme shortage of guards in ** guard to pools and teach swimming lessons. My son had a panic attack in one of these courses and had to withdraw because of how rushed and militant the instructor was with the youth. I did not receive a refund. The owner, ***************************, was screaming and swearing at me on the phone. My son had to get counselling to get over this and try again with his lifeguard courses. The lifesaving society of ** and any municipality will tell parents never to enrol their kids in LIT aquatics courses, something I learned too late.

LIT First Aid & Lifeguard Training Response

    26/07/2023

LIT Aquatics trains over ***** students a year in advanced aquatics and first aid courses. The company has over 65 instructors that teach out of 19 recreation locations across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. The instructor lead and management review student evaluation forms of our instructors performance regularly.Students do have challenges but are encouraged to work at their own pace. Without knowing all of the details of this situation, I will provide examples of what we would normally do in a situation like this in which our instructors are very familiar with. First off, we would try to identify what is causing the panic and stress. In many cases it is the physical testing standards that causes anxiety for students. If that is the case, we provide options and adjust progressions in an attempt to find a way for the student to be successful. The last thing our instructor would do or what we would direct from the office is to push people beyond their comfort zone. *************************** is the company owner and one of the most decorated Lifeguard Instructors in the province. He very rarely if ever takes customer phone calls and the company in general does not have a culture of yelling on phone calls or swearing. LIT Aquatics is a community-based company and since **** has developed leaders within the community through water safety instruction and aquatic emergency prevention. Office admin staff at the direction of ******* have ongoing policy and customer support **********************. The ********************** dictates that if a call does get more aggressive that the phone conversation is to end and with a request to call back again so a more respectful and progressive conversation can happen. The company educates young people on public relations and customer service responses in an aquatic environment. This is then something very critical to our office admin being able to effectively manage customers and situations of all types. The ****************** (**) **************** and ***** branch would not say anything derogatory that about one of their affiliates particularly one that trains 60% of their member base. LIT Aquatics is long standing member and many times the ** society has reached out to us to help resolve student issues. The statement that any municipality would tell parents never to enroll their kids in LIT Aquatics courses is not based on fact. Feel free to reach out to our organization and we would be more than happy to share the evaluation forms from the rest of the students in the class that this student attended.
