On or about March 16, 2024, my 89.5 year old father was allowed to sign as a "co-buyer" on a 2021 or 2022 Honda Pilot. (The title and the police have different dates.) The amount financed was $40,072.28 at 14.42% interest with a total cost at pay-off of $62,314.98. The overcharge for the automobile plus the exorbitant percentage, should have been enough for anyone not to purchase this unit, let alone to actually allow a grandparent to sign off as a co-buyer. When the dealership ran my father's credit, Transunion and Equifax both denied the credit. There also had been a Freeze put on his credit in 2018, which also did not stop this dealership from proceeding with the transaction. With a POA in hand, family members went to the dealership to understand this transaction and try to understand the circumstances. Two visits later, a court proceeding and more documents finally convinced the General Manager to provide copies of the application and subsequent loan. General Manger asked if we planned to sue, then proceeded to tell the family it was a good deal. Sales and Financial managers were also spoken with to try and understand how this was allowed to happen. My father has been receiving treatment for dementia since 2018 and most days he doesn't remember what happened the day before. Sales staff at the dealership made a comment, "this happens all the time" when grandparents are brought in to sign when they should not. What kind of dealership is this? Ethic, morals - or just in business to make money any way possible? There are more facts and details around this troublesome transaction. The dealership will not/has not offered in any way to reverse this loan and remove our Father's name. This is Elder Abuse without regard.
