My car was having issues, it would shut off on you when idling, & it had already been to several mechanics that couldn't find an issue-there were no codes that pulled when hooked up to computer. Smitty assured me they would look into it & the cost for diagnostic starts at $135 and could potentially go up "depending on what all we have to do". I said ok but please keep me informed. Drop vehicle off at 9a, speak around 3p, Smitty says that we are still they think it could be engine but they're going to do 1 more thing to rule out oil filter, cost still at $135. He said that they probably wouldn't have it done that day (7a-6p hours). I get a call around 9a the next morning and was informed the car had too much oil in it and was 1,500 miles overdue for an oil change, they tested a new filter and got the issue to cease. I said great, let's change the oil/get a new filter, what will the total cost be at that point. He tells me $400. I was at a loss for words, I said I don't understand but sure if it needs the oil changed. I call back an hour later & ask for cost breakdown. The typical full synthetic oil change there is $60/70 and I saw a special they were doing online for $49.99. I explained that there was a huge discrepancy from $135 to $400 even with an oil change added. He told me that because they had to do another test he charged me more for labor because of the work put in & that I should be glad it wasn't the fuel pump like I thought it could be when I dropped it off because that would be more expensive. I said "fuel pumps cost more and the labor to fix that is way more extensive, I'm not an idiot." Smitty was not budging with this cost. I go to pick up my car and once again ask for a cost/labor break down and he says they don't break labor down by the hour. He got the green light to double charge me the diagnostic cost because my issue was resolved. I had to pay $367.65 for them to diagnose that the car needed an oil change then change it in just under 24 hours.

I took my truck to them and was charged ******* for a set of spark plug wires that cost ****** at advance auto parts. Furthermore, they werent even the brand they said they were. I will never go back to that shop again. If that is the way you get charged for parts, someone could be charged ***** for a $**** transmission.
