I want to convey my extreme disappointment with Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver (**oGD) who improperly installed Gutter Helmet (**) product at my home in December 2021. The improper installation of the ** system caused extensive damage to my home. Please note that I purchased the home in October 2021 and the roof warranty was transferred to me from the seller/roofer. There were no leaks disclosed in the escrow process. When the leaks began after the first precipitation following ** installation in December 2021, I contacted the roofer holding the warranty. He indicated that NO roof leaks had occurred since the roof installation and that NO warranty claims had been made until mine. He inspected the leaking and documented that the leaks were a direct result of the ** installation completed by **oGD. Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver failed to adhere to the ** warranty which states it is the responsibility of the installing dealer to assure the Gutter Helmet system performs as designed and has been properly attached to your home without damaging the integrity of the structure. The installing dealer was **oGD and they did not install the system properly and thus caused extensive damage to the structure. They denied any responsibility for their mistake and refused to help resolve the issue. I would not be surprised if they reply to this post continuing to deny they did anything wrong, which will just prove my point. I had to bring in a representative from a third party to help me get some sort of compensation for the damages.Avoid using this installing dealer.

Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver & Northern Colorado Response

****** ** here at Gutter Helmet of Denver strive to always provide outstanding service and support to all of our customers. Your review is missing allot of details in regards to your experience with our company. Upon our installation in December 2021 we had not been contacted by you for over a month and a half after you started experiencing issues, that should have been immediate concerns for a homeowner. You mentioned multiple times during our phone conversations that after you closed on your home in October 2021, around Thanksgiving or shortly prior you noticed water staining on that exact location that your ceiling that had fallen through, this was Prior to our installation. You had reached out to our sales representative at the end of January 2022, our service team called you within 15 Minutes of us hearing about your service request and offered to send technicians within 30 minutes to 1 hour of our phone conversation. You declined, we offered any time as we advised you that this is a serious matter and it needs to be handled as quickly as possible. ******************, you chose to wait multiple days. Upon our inspection of the property we found you had a major Ice dam on top of a flat roof which was causing water to enter near the walls, causing the leak. ** offered in good faith to remove the guards at no charge, so you can have your roofing contractor work on your roof. ** spoke to the roofing contractor and he advised and agreed that there was an ice dam and due to the damming issues recommended that we should omit the gutter guard in this area due to the slope of the roof as well as the ice dams that are occurring. Your roofer suggested he furnish a layment on the flat roofing to allow water to properly divert. Both your roofing contractor and our company advised that the downspout from the second level roof had no extension, thus allowing the water to drain onto the flat roof, and during heavy snow this causes freezing. When melting and re-freezing happens this can cause water intrusion. ** at Gutter Helmet offered in good faith to replace and seal the drywall for you as well as waive all pertaining service charges and remove the Gutter Helmet in the area of question at no charge. You declined us to do so as you wanted to use a contractor of your choice to do the drywall. As you mentioned in multiple phone conversations, you should have contacted someone weather that was a roofer or handyman etc., when you first noticed water staining in November (again before our installation even taking place), you failed to do so. ** had contacted the third party as we are directed to, for resolution and they had reached out to you. You not only accepted our settlement but the third parties as well. As a homeowner it is your responsibility to not only notify contractors of potential issues of concern, especially known water intrusion or staining, so that area can be inspected thoroughly so that we can find a solution prior to work being rendered. ** will always stand by our installations as well as our customers, we can not comment that there weren't any previous calls for roofing service by the previous homeowner as that is speculation. ** feel we have provided outstanding service to you given the circumstance, even with your knowledge of prior damage.

    Customer Response

    11/17/2022

Thank you for your response. Allow me to provide more details and clarification as there seems to be a significant amount of confusion on your end. First, I will provide a timeline of events which I have previously communicated to you in very thorough documentation:1.September 13, 2021 Viewed the property.2.September 17, 2021 Full property inspection completed. No water damage found and no leaks found.3.October 18, 2021 Moved into the property. No leaks.4.December 1, 2021 Gutter Helmet system was installed.5.December 25, 2021 I noticed a leak formed on the ceiling directly below an area where the Gutter Helmet system was installed.6.December 26, 2021 thru January 29, 2022 Had multiple people come out to inspect the area including Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver. ********************* of Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver completed an inspection but did not have a resolution and said he was not sure exactly what was causing the leak and would have to come back to inspect the area again when the weather was better. On paper, ***** documented that an ice dam was causing the issue, however the leak persisted even when there were no ice dams present (I brushed any snow off the roof to prevent dams). Additionally, with the frequent snow present on the roof and slick conditions, no one was willing to get on the roof to thoroughly inspect the area and perform work. 7.January 30, 2022 Drywall collapsed.8.January 31, 2022 Roofing contractor performed an inspection and concluded the leak came from the Gutter Helmet system:As a result of my inspection of the leak you are currently experiencing, it has been determined that the leak is a direct result of the installation of the gutter cover system. The cover panels were installed and screwed into the 2-ply flat roofing membrane, the *************** metal details were also manipulated and compromised. The cover screws and area were never sealed with a silicone application, nor was a flashing detail installed.9.March 1, *************************************************** the area and an additional inspection was completed by a second individual. His findings were:In the initial observation of the gutter guard system, it was installed incorrectly. The corner piece transition point from the steep-slope shingle roof into the low-slope modified bitumen area was compromised in the installation of said gutter guard system. This has resulted in the membrane allowing water to penetrate beneath the surface causing the internal damages we see currently. As you can see clearly outlined, the leak began AFTER the installation of the Gutter Helmet system by your team at Gutter Helmet of Greater Denver. Your numerous claims that the leak existed prior to the Gutter Helmet installation are completely false and display that at this point, you are willing to lie in order to support your case not a good look for a professional business.Second, I did not decline an inspection from your team. I called and requested to have an inspection and that inspection was completed by *********************. Again, the weather was a big determining factor with this issue and for liability reasons, no one was willing to get on my roof and inspect or fix the problem. I did not wait around until the problem was severe, as you are suggesting.Third, as documented above in my timeline, not once do the statements from my roofing contractor mention the leak being caused from an ice dam. The contractors clearly state that the leak was a direct result of the installation of the Gutter Helmet system and that the installers manipulated an area of flashing and edging during the installation. This manipulation is what caused the leak, not an ice dam.Fourth, the replacement of the drywall was only a small portion of the internal damages. Underneath the drywall, the insulation was ruined and covered in black mold. Your offering of putting up a new piece of drywall by someone who was not a drywall contractor would have only covered up the ruined insulation and created more of an issue. I wanted the work done once and done right. Had it been completed by your team as you suggested, I would have had to rip out the drywall just to have it done a second time.Fifth, as I mentioned in numerous phone conversations and in my above timeline, as soon as I found the leak, on December 25, 2021, AFTER the December 1, 2021 installation of Gutter Helmet, I contacted someone to come out and inspect the area. Unfortunately, every single person I contacted including your team member, could not perform any work due to the weather. ******** accepted the settlement for monetary compensation from the third party because the offer from the third party was reasonable. The monetary compensation you offered was less than 5% of the damages caused by your improper installation. I had spent 7 months trying to get this issue resolved and finally felt the compensation offered by the third party was acceptable and that further pursuing this issue was not worth my time.I am writing this review in hopes to shed some light on how you treat customers when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes but what sets a great company apart from a poor one is being able to own up to your mistakes and do what needs to be done to correct them. Unfortunately, you continue to deny any responsibility for your installation mistake despite the numerous official documents provided by the professional roofers. You advised me to contact a roofer or handyman etc. yet, when I did and provided you with their findings, it was not good enough. You had no interest in providing reasonable help, you just wanted to point fingers and not take responsibility. This persistent denial is not standing by your installation and doing the bare minimum is not excellent customer service. The fact that you consider the way you have handled this situation as providing outstanding service is unfortunate and I am sorry that you are setting such a low standard for the company and future customers. I hope that you can learn from this mistake and learn to provide better service to customers.
