I wouldn't even allow Elizabeth Diamond to repair my watch for free at this point because I don't trust them. I bought a Rado Watch from the Elizabeth Diamond in Spring 2019. When I purchased the watch the sales associate informed me when I needed a new battery they would replace the first one for free since they didn't know how long it had been sitting on display. Fast forward to November 2020 and I noticed my battery died. I remembered Elizabeth Diamond had promised to replace the first battery for free so I took my watch to the Elizabeth Diamond I purchased it from on 7245 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Oh. After holding the watch over night and the sales associate told me they'd call me in the morning (which they didn't), I called the store and asked what was going on. They said they had to call me back, at which point they informed me that they couldn't replace the battery for free that it would cost me $25. The sales associate explained that I got the watch for a good deal and how hard it was to fix the battery, etc. The problem is that all these things were known at the time of the purchase and the agreement was the battery would be replaced. I professionally negotiate terms and conditions and sign contracts so I fully understand when an agreement to a binding transaction has been made. Unfortunately in our society there is no realistic avenue for reciprocity other than the BBB. When a reputable business makes an agreement to provide a free repair for a purchase I didn't think that was something that needed to be in writing. I would expect Elizabeth Diamond to have a little more professionalism than a pawn shop or someone you buy jewelry off of on Craigslist. The difficulty of replacing the battery was known at the time of purchase, I didn't force Elizabeth Diamond to offer a free battery replacement. Honestly I didn't even ask. Again the fact that I got the watch on sale was irrelevant to the fact that they promised to repair the battery the first time. Actually the sale price was one of the things binding in the agreement in which the terms were that a battery would be provided when the first battery died. Elizabeth Diamond did not live up to the agreement of the transaction. One reason why I wanted to notify you was lying to customers didn't seem like a good business model, especially at a jewelry store. I honestly fully intended to look at Diamond earrings for my girlfriend for Christmas or Valentine's Day while I waited for the associate to repair the battery when I went into the store for the first time. I'm relatively young (in my early 30s), I'm not married. So if I were to buy jewelry in the future or an engagement ring or my next watch in my 40s that most likely will be even more expensive, Elizabeth Diamond would've been a place to go since I was so happy with the purchase of my Rado watch. Now, how could I go somewhere that I don't trust? Theoretically I believe in the perfect market and I believe how I spend my money dictates the companies that should survive and the companies that should fail. So how in good faith could I spend a dollar at a business that I know doesn't live up to the terms and conditions that they agree to with their customers? Especially since the customers are at the mercy of big business to basically be told "fuck you" there isn't anything you can do about it, it's not like someone is going to get a lawyer and file a class action lawsuit over $25 over a claim which can't even be proven. The only voice the customer has is through how they spend their money and communicating to whom ever they want the dissatisfaction with the customer service of the company. It just seems silly to lose a customer over $25 especially who could be buying jewelry for the next 50 years. I'm sure with the profit margins on jewelry Elizabeth Diamond would've came out ahead by retaining a customer whose first though when buying jewelry was "I'm going to go back to the place I bought that watch I really like at". I am not even sure what response to this email would be appropriate just because trustworthiness is a huge factor in purchases I make for items which I'm literally going on someone's word of mouth on because I have no expertise in the area. Without trustworthiness you have nothing. The owner said she would resolve the issue and then stopped emailing me back. I finally took my watch in to get it fixed and they replaced the battery. When I received the "fixed" watch the battery stopped working again a couple weeks later.
