I purchased a used 2016 Volvo XC70 from Merrimack Street Volvo Cars originally on 9/11/2020 for $16,800. The car has had TWO major engine failures since then. The first occurred after 3.5 months of use on 12/26/20 and required an engine head to be replaced due to burned exhaust value. Merrimack Street Volvo initially refused to fix, but relented after the extended warranty I purchased with car for an additional cost of $2,280 refused to pay for repairs. However, they did not repair the vehicle according to standards and thus the second engine failure for the SAME issue occurred on 11/25/21 - 11 months after they repaired it the first time on January 29, 2021 (took them about 4 weeks to repair from 12/26). This second failure was also due to a burned exhaust valve again, which will require a cylinder head to be replaced. These are structural engine failures should not occur (especially on a high end Volvo) unless vehicle is defective or work was not performed to standard. I am an requesting a resolution whereby Merrimack Street Volvo will take responsibility for the majority of the repairs as this MAJOR engine work should still be under warranty ( I am willing to be reasonable and also contribute, which a proposed to them, but did they did not respond to my proposal). I have contacted other dealers and they normally offer 2-4 years warranty on labor and lifetime on parts on these kinds of major engine work. This kind of repair will cost anywhere between $5k-$7k (Per other Volvo dealer and specific Volvo technicians I have contacted) and it is unconscionable to ask me to pay out of pocket for this. I have tried to come to an agreement with them where I am willing to put some of my own pocket money but they have refused. If this fails, I have no choice but to litigate this in the court of law. Including as evidence - diagnosis of issues and recommended repairs, including picture of burned Valve. I am also including an email of containing estimates.
