Groot is charging me for two cans instead of one, and they won't correct it. In fact, my bill has never been incorrect. I've called and spent hours on the phone. The service rep says they always fixed the problem. Then I get the bill and it's incorrect. The billing department is supposed to call me back, but they never do. My bill is double what it should be. I have paid them for the amount that I'm told I owe on the phone, and then I get sent bills showing late fees for an amount I don't owe. They're now threatening to send me to collection on the amount I don't owe them.For months, they also sent the bill to my address but with some unknown person's name on it. That finally got corrected (even after I called about it repeatedly) when the mail carrier quit delivering the mail with the wrong name on it.I don't even think what they're doing is legal. All I want it to be sent the correct bill, and the charges and late fees removed from my account for a garbage I don't, want, need or legally required for me to even have.I'm not sure what to do. I've researched that the parent company is Waste Connections and its CFO is ****************************, so perhaps I need to reach out to the parent company and not Groot. According to their latest financials, its revenue of $2.065 billion is up 9.8% year over year. (*********************************************************************************) So, I'm not sure why they're turning to dishonest and unethical tactics to make money.Review from John S

I have a commercial account. When I signed the original contract, I didn't read the fine print and noticed later that it was a 5 year contract. This was never discussed when I called them. They just sneak it in to the 20 page contract.So, I called to cancel the contract, which they wouldn't allow. I said that at the end of my contract, I would not be renewing. They say you can only cancel within a window of time. You can't tell them prior to this window that you want to cancel. You can only cancel 90 days out.I marked my calendar and called them after 4 years and 9 months that I wanted to cancel.They said it already renewed automatically for another 3 years.Honestly, it is ridiculous that they limit the window to cancel. Why can't I cancel now for 3 years from now when the new contract expires. There is not way to get rid of the auto renewal.Review from Alex K

Consumer fraud alert! This company has devised a plan to send invoices claiming that the owner of the property is one year past due on garbage collection services when no services were ever requested nor rendered. Since no account was ever set up, they dont have my name as the tenant but instead obtained the name of the owner through public records search. I didnt need the service since I travel for business and Village ordinance does not require residents to have it. Being less than pleased with the situation, the company took it upon itself to send out invoices as a scare tactic to get me to pay and sign up. Dont fall for this tactic and report any such incidents to the village.Review from SC L

No customer ******************** or communication to customers in billing and no transparency ever. We used our bank bill pay on time $17.70 each month and our bank paid to the elk grove office location by paper check, until in the August 2022 - we received a paper bill indicating we are due for next 3 months bill all together. No letter of explanation on what's wrong with our monthly payment going, and why do we need to pay "in-advance" for next 3 months service?? I checked our bank e-payment history, the check was sent and it seemed cashed on a monthly basis.Then, no further communication until 4 months later, another paper bill was received saying we owned them $26.86 at the close of 2022 and again late fee for next quarter (Jan 2023 - Mar 2023) + total of $53.10 is late. With no customer service communication and a post-it on our garabage pickup day with note "CALL OFFICE" and left our garbage unpickuped. I think this company is really bad on billing practice and being transparent on money they actually receive from customers!Review from Blackberry township B

**************** with **** and every member we have ever talked with from Groot have been absolutely wonderful. The crew for Blackberry township are the absolute best. They are always friendly, curtious with the cans, slow driving through the neighborhood, and always right on time. We appreciate this company so very much and would recommend them to everyone. i have had groot **** since **** they pick up my garbage for a commercial 6 flat i own.they . have slowly been raising price till reached ****** dallars with fees. found another service for exact same service for 80 .00 with fees . they will not match fee? so i cancelled, they will not pickup dumpster. also keep service going even after i repeatedly tell them i wont pay and dont want there service. i have explain to there sales person price deference of ****** (unbelivable) but he said there is a contract that rools over every year and i am locked in give me a break. his name is *************************************** he has sent the exact same service and dumbstert i have a quote to building next to me for. ***** pllus fees thats 2 dallers less than new deal i got? when i told him his answer is im new and have to fallow company policy. hes sending me directions how i have to by out my contract cant believe this 171 more dallors they have been ripping off a loyal client for years yes years checked my recorgs i paid 80 dallers in 2015 .Review from David V

Five times I went through the 'Contact Us' feature on the Groot website to complain about my service. Not a single reply. The sixth time I wrote to my city ******** (7/19/2022) and got a reply saying they had talked to someone at Groot and that this person would be contacting me soon. They never did. That is six times I've been blown off.The problem I'm having is the recyclables guy picks up my bin, but never puts it back in my yard. He moves it ~30 feet down the street and leaves it in my neighbor's yard. My neighbor is a nice guy but is not a fan of my bin ending up on his lawn.This started a year or so ago as far as I can remember. It never used to happen. The guy who picks up the regular garbage container always places it back right where he found it, so I am at a loss as to why the recyclables guy is doing this.Groot also missed picking up my yard waste about 20% of the time. They are always polite when I call and send the guy over to pick it up, but it is annoying to have to keep calling.Review from masani g

You got to be lucky for them to pick your trash up. Missing schedule is commonplace. The customer service is terrible. They missed the scheduled pick up this week, they missed the follow up pick up as well. I spent all weekend chasing the trash down the street. I keep hearing this new thing lately. "It is too hot for the drivers and take frequent breaks"Dont make me the bad guy. If it is too hot, employ more drivers. Hot or cold, I need my trash picked up. I pay for this service. It is not my job to manage the staffing. Terrible servicceReview from A. S

It is not OK to miss recycling pick up for a whole week. **************** is lousy. Called and called. Left messages. They told me to leave the recycling out and they would come the next day. Did not come all week. Called again on Friday and they changed their story to say they never got any messages they missed service. It is a health violation to leave garbage or recycling on the street to blow around. Shame on them for neglecting their duties, not caring, and telling lies.Review from Zeus C

Unethical and uncaring folks at Groot in Northern ********. 1. They raise your rates 10%+ without telling you just hoping you dont notice the change in rates.2. You dont find out about higher rates UNTI AFTER they are in effect.3. They agree to meet a competitors rate and then raise the rates less than six months later. 4. They make you wait on hold more than 30 minutes EVERY CALL. 5. They leave garbage up and down the street as garbage flies out of the top of the trucks.If you have a choice, choose against Groot. I happily changed.
