On February 11, 2014 the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation entered into a consent order with Roofs by Adam, Inc., and Adam Walczak, named as the roofing qualifying party for Roofs by Adam, named as the Respondents. The order stipulates that Roofs by Adam Inc., in the fall of 2011, hired Kevin J. Olson as a subcontractor to do roofing work. Mr. Olson did not have an active Illinois Roofing Contractor license. Mr. Olson had applied for a roofing qualifying party registration by exam, but had not passed the exam. Repairs made by Mr. Olson were found to leak, as the methods used to address the repairs, e.g. flashing and sealant, were not properly installed. After repairs by Mr. Olson, the roof continued to leak. The Respondents admit to the allegations, but assert that after further repair work done by Mr. Olson, the roof no longer leaked. In order to resolve the matter, the Respondents and the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation have agreed that the Respondents be permitted to enter into a consent order with the Department, with the following conditions:
The roofing contractor license of Roofs by Adam Inc. to practice as a roofing contractor in the State of Illinois is suspended indefinitely for a minimum of one month and until $1,000 of the $2,000 fine is paid, whichever is later. Further, the Respondents shall pay a total fine of $2,000. Both Roofs by Adam, Inc. and Adam Walczak are liable for the payment of the fine. In the event that the Respondents fail to comply with the terms for the payment of the fine, the Department may immediately suspend any of the Respondents' licenses or registrations.
