Started out strong on prior 5 trips, but on my travel last week Laura abandoned my 16 yo Shepherd after 1 day (7 day trip). Thank god for my family who came to the rescue. Shameful to treat a beautiful elderly part of the family this way. Sounds like she has done this to others also. Avoid her; not reliable. Cannot be trusted!

Laura the Pet Nanny Inc. Response

First and foremost, this clients dog was not abandoned by our company.  We have been taking care of this clients senior dog for over a year.  She has always had some trouble getting around, due to arthritis, but she could previously walk on her own.  This time around pretty much from day one the sitter that was caring for his dog sent him an update that she didn't think she was able to get up on her own to eat or drink.  She managed to get her out using a sling, but she didn't want to move much.  He responded that she had some good days and some bad ones.  He admitted that it makes it worse if he isn't there and that when she is just lying in a bed all day in the room that she is restricted to, that she stiffens up.  Yet he chose to leave her to go on a 9 day trip. On day 2, this same sitter said she was in bad shape, she couldn't even hold herself up with the sling and she was limping in the front probably from lying in the same position all day.  She had a lot of trouble lifting her up to get her outside.  The pictures that were sent to Ken were quite pathetic.  I asked the other 2 sitters who were taking care or previously cared for her for some input, one was a vet tech and I was hoping she could fill in for the evening sitter as she is younger and stronger.  The sitter who was doing the mornings said she was getting harder to get up and walk around and that she also had to use the sling the entire time.  Her thought was that the dog really needed 24/7 care and not the 2 30 min visits we were doing each day.  All 3 sitters were concerned not only for her quality of life, but that she could hardly get up and walk for them and of course she would be missing her human as well.  I contacted Ken first to let him know that the night sitter was having some difficulty with her and thought she was declining and asked him to check his cameras to see how she has been, mainly to see if she was getting herself up and about during the day.  I also wanted his feedback as to whether or not a visit to the vet was needed.  I commented that he was going to be gone for another 6 days and if she was indeed going down hill quickly, we needed to figure out an action plan and course of action.  He commented that he saw her up and walking with his brother and then said that "this might be too much for some folks to help her up".  He then said that his brother's will do the next few days.  Since, I didn't get specifics as to which visits they were doing, my morning sitter showed up the next day.  Ken responded to her update saying the rest of the week was covered.  If this is how abandoning a client and their pet happens, then I must be confused on the definition.  We have been in business for 13 years and have never left a job midstream. In fact, we have been known for jumping in to take on last minute clients who have had sitters who cancelled at the last minute.  This man is so busy trying to disparage my company when the reality is this is a dog who doesn't have much time left on her side. If she was my dog, I sure wouldn't have left her for a 9 day trip knowing she was getting 30 min of care 2x a day.  This was a heartbreaking situation for my sitters to have to deal with.  Had we been aware how much her health had declined and that she could hardly even walk anymore, I don't think we would have taken the job.
