    I originally signed up for **************** with a company called ******. They were recently (within the last 12 months) acquired by a company called Altima Telecom. I have never been happy with my automatic transfer to Altima but was waiting to determine who I wanted to sign up with. I made my decision the other day and waited over an hour on hold with Altima to cancel my service with them. When I finally got a human on the line, I told them I wanted to cancel my subscription. The paraphrased my request and then cut me off. Call terminated abruptly. Frustrated, I called back and waited an additional 45 minutes before I hung up with no resolution. I then sent an email and more than 24 hours later received a response saying they were disappointed that I was considering canceling. My email was very specific that I wanted my service terminated immediately. I then contacted my ******************* to put a stop payment on future payments.

    I moved my internet and home phone service from Altima to Cogeco on Aug 18, 2025. I let a VM message with ****** who was the original service provider and I called Altima and spoke to a customer service person early Aug 18 to ask them to close my account because I was no longer happy with their service and that I had moved to Cogeco. They said they couldn't close the account until they received something from Cogeco in writing to transfer my homephone to Cogeco. I called Cogeco and they said that they shouldn't have to do that because Cogeco already claimed that phone number however my phone cannot take incoming calls because Altima has not released the full phone priviledge. Technically they are holding my phone hostage. I have called and left more messages with Netfox and I have spoken with Altima tech support on this matter. I was assured yesterday that my account and phone number would be released however to date that is not the case. I can't access the account I have with them therefore I cannot stop pre authorized payments. I have paid for the month of August so my account is up to date. I am concerned about future payments coming out of my account along with concern that the actions of this company in not willing to release my phone number is legal.
