Capital Locators offers to assist consumers in finding and retrieving unclaimed funds for a fee based on a percentage of the funds retrieved. On their website, www.capitallocators.org, they state that funds that go unclaimed for too long are usually lost to the government agency holding them. They also state that consumers should be careful because such funds are only held for a brief period of time after which the government agency holding them is able to seize the funds. On April 10, 2012, BBB asked Capital Locators for a list of the specific states that place time limits on consumers' opportunities to file claims for unclaimed assets. Further, BBB asked the company to provide copies of their promotional and advertising materials, a copy of their contract for unclaimed asset retrieval, and the names, addresses, and phone numbers of ten customers who recovered assets as a result of the company's asset recovery services. To date the company has not replied to substantiate their claims.
