Accreditation Status

This business is not BBB accredited.

Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.

To be accredited by BBB, a business must apply for accreditation and BBB must determine that the business meets BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. BBB Accredited Businesses must pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public.

BBB Rating

Reasons for Rating

  • BBB concerns with the industry in which this business operates

How does the Better Business Bureau rating system work?

Ratings range from A+ to F, based on factors like customer complaints, transparency, and responsiveness. Customer reviews do not impact the BBB rating. BBB also seeks and uses information directly from businesses and public data sources. Please find more information about our rating system.

BBB ratings reflect how a business is likely to interact with customers. Ratings update automatically as new information is received. In some cases, a business's grade may be lowered if the BBB does not have sufficient information about the business despite requests for the information.

Alert

BBB is issuing a warning about Sanford and Shaw Lending Services which appears to be operating an advance fee loan scam.

We created this BBB Business Review on 2.22.16 when consumers began calling BBB. They had searched for loans online using the tag "loans with bad credit".

The website was created on 2.9.16, and the server appears to be in Canada. As of 2.22.16 the phone number and website was active.

Advance fee loans prey on people who may not otherwise be able to get a loan. Advance fee loan brokers often advertise in the newspaper, or use the internet to scan for loan applicants. Operators require a cash advance, usually a couple hundred dollars, to secure a loan.

BBB strongly advises would-be borrowers to exercise caution before paying advance fees to unknown persons who say they can find loans. Never give your credit card, checking account, or social security numbers over the phone. If you are having financial problems, you may wish to seek help from your local non-profit counseling service.

According to the FTC, legitimate lenders never "guarantee" or say you are likely to get a loan or a credit card before you apply, especially if you have bad credit, no credit, or a bankruptcy. Legitimate lenders never ask you to pay for processing your application.

If you have been contacted by this company:

- please file a complaint or customer review with BBB,

-report the incident to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov, and

- review the FTC tips on how to protect yourself at www.ftc.gov.
