Government Actions
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
In August 2025, the business entered a settlement agreement with the Michigan Attorney General in 30th Circuit Court in Ingham County. The agreement settles allegations that Holtslander and Sons and other companies violated the Michigan Consumer Protection Act by misleading consumers about the nature of the agreements they were signing, the cost of the services, potential financial responsibility for costs not covered by insurance, and their legal rights and obligations.
Under the terms of the agreement, the company is required to:
Remove contract terms alleged to be unlawful, provide written quotes to consumers before entering emergency tree service contracts, and eliminate alleged misleading information from its website.
In addition, Holtslander will not pursue payment from certain customers on past emergency services and will pay the state of Michigan $25,000, a portion of which will be distributed to affected consumers.
