On August 10, 2012, Hawaii's Better Business Bureau challenged the Welakahao Catamaran, Inc. 's (DBA Outrigger Catamaran) advertising claim, located on the company's web site - http://waikikibeachsailing.com/about.html, which states that they are "RATED #1 FOR BEST SERVICE AND OVERALL BEST SAILING AND SNORKELING EXPERIENCE" and their vessel is the "SAFEST VESSEL IN WAIKIKI."

When Hawaii's BBB inquired about this advertising claim, the company's president was not able to provide quantifiable verification to substantiate these claims. In accordance with the BBBCode of Advertising, advertisers "should be prepared to substantiate any claims or offers made before publication or broadcast and, upon request, present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or the Better Business Bureau."

As Welakahao Catamaran, Inc. could not adequately substantiate that they are "RATED #1 FOR BEST SERVICE AND OVERALL BEST SAILING AND SNORKELING EXPERIENCE", Hawaii's BBB requested the company amend its advertising claims accordingly and cease using the "RATED #1" claim in association with its advertisements.

Since initiating the advertising challenge and suggesting these amendments, Hawaii's BBB has been in contact with the company on several occasions. However, the company has yet to amend its advertisements as of September 12, 2012.
