BBB has been made aware of letters sent by Money Network (part of First Data - now Fiserv, Inc.) in relation to Economic Impact Payments issued under the CARES Act of 2020. In the letter it requests further identifying information such as legal name, residential street address, DOB, and SSN, etc.

We contacted Money Network and they advised:

This is a legitimate letter sent to consumers whose accounts have failed identity check. This is part of our customer identification program. The Customer Identification Program is a Provision of the USA Patriot Act, which includes therein the requirement of Financial Institutions to verify the identity of individuals wishing to conduct financial transactions, using Government issued Identification to verify the personal information provided.
