BBB Midwest Plains Warning: Fraudulent website impersonating closed Beatrice auto dealer

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of the Midwest Plains is warning consumers about a fraudulent website impersonating Huston's Motors, a legitimate Beatrice, Nebraska business that closed in December 2023.
The scam site, https://hustons-motors.com/, is using the name and former address of the authentic dealership to defraud consumers purchasing classic cars online. Victims have lost more than $51,000 to date.
The legitimate Huston's Motors was located at 2200 Court St in Beatrice, Nebraska, where the Huston family also operated Huston's Furniture. Owner Nick Huston passed away in 2024, and the business ceased operations on December 21, 2023. BBB has confirmed the business is NOT operating at this address and the website is fraudulent.
On October 6, 2025, a consumer reported to BBB that they wired $42,500 to purchase a classic car advertised on the fake website. The vehicle was never delivered, and BBB has documented the fraudulent bill of sale.
The daughter of the late Nick Huston told BBB she has received numerous calls from confused consumers asking about vehicles listed on the impostor site. She confirmed at least one person lost $9,000 to the scam.
BBB attempted to contact the operators of the fraudulent website by phone but could not reach anyone. The website remained online as of October 13, 2025.
How to protect yourself
BBB urges extreme caution when buying vehicles online. Red flags include:
- Wire transfer requests – Legitimate dealers accept secure payment methods
- Below-market prices – If it seems too good to be true, it probably is
- High-pressure tactics – Scammers create urgency to prevent due diligence
- No in-person inspection – Always see the vehicle before paying
- Generic descriptions – Fraudsters often copy listings from other sites
What to do if you've been scammed

- Report it to BBB at www.bbb.org/scamtracker
- Contact local law enforcement immediately
- File a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov
- Contact your bank if you wired funds or paid by credit card
