Smart Options Solutions officially opened its doors on Veterans Day in 2023, but independent broker owner, Paul E. Saccardo’s, path to entrepreneurship stretches back three decades. After starting his career in financial services in 1994, he spent years inside large corporations watching customer service slip away from what he believed it should be. That push became his spark.
“I wanted to elevate my customer’s experience,” Saccardo said. “No matter how busy I am, I pick up the phone. If I miss a call, I call back. I follow through until it’s complete.”
This mindset became the foundation for Smart Options Solutions and still guides every decision made.
Smart Options Solutions focuses on merchant services (credit card processing and point-of-sale (POS) systems), employee benefits, and business succession planning. Paul’s approach blends his years of experience with personalized service and an in-depth understanding of the latest technology.
“The ultimate goal,” Paul said, “is to be a trusted partner in growth for my clients.”
When Paul first launched Smart Options Solutions, he worked primarily with the Massachusetts Chiropractors Association. Since then he has expanded into new industries and larger accounts, driven by evolving technology and a growing demand for custom solutions.
Paul works with a network of strategic partners who help streamline the solutions he brings to clients, from implementing new systems to recovering revenue lost to high processing fees. He stays current on industry standards, product updates, education, and compliance so every recommendation is grounded in real knowledge and experience. “I believe in full disclosure and transparency,” Paul said. He studies the industry he represents and makes compliance a priority, giving clients clear, honest guidance throughout the entire sales process.
He describes himself as a “worker bee with titles,” which feels fitting. He stays hands-on, answers his own phone, and aims for one-call resolution whenever possible. In a competitive market where many companies lead with price cuts, Paul believes real differentiation comes from trust, communication, and consistency. That’s part of why he’s so excited about Smart Options Solutions’ recent Better Business Bureau accreditation. Credibility matters to him, and he knows it matters to the businesses he serves.
“This market is competitive,” Paul said. “Anybody can drop their price. I want to stand out by focusing on customer service.”
Purpose and giving back sit at the center of his work. Smart Options Solutions operates on a philosophy Paul calls “Swipe away homelessness,” where a percentage of every credit card purchase supports America’s Homeless Veterans. It’s a cause close to his heart as the son of an Army veteran, and it gives deeper meaning to the work he does every day.
“My goals are simple,” Paul explained. “I want to make a living, stay independent through and after retirement, and support my community however I can.”
Smart Options Solutions is based in Canton, Massachusetts, where Paul has called home for 35 years. He appreciates Canton for its sense of community and finds joy in being actively involved. He’s an active member of the American Legion-Post 24, Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and participates in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, among other local efforts. Most of his business growth has come from word of mouth and referrals, a testament to the relationships he builds.
The entrepreneurship journey hasn’t been without its obstacles. Paul has seen firsthand how poor follow-through from others can damage customer relationships. He guards his reputation fiercely and refuses to let anyone jeopardize the trust he’s earned.
What keeps him going is the independence and the constant discovery. He loves choosing the businesses he brings into his portfolio, staying flexible with his schedule, and learning something new every day. Technology keeps changing, and he enjoys adapting with it.
At the end of the day, Paul’s motivation is simple. He loves people, he loves helping them, and he loves the work he gets to do. After 43 years of marriage and a lifetime of service-oriented roles, he sums it up best himself, “I just want to service the customers that I earn.”
