Better Business Bureau® (BBB®) is urging consumers in Southwest Missouri to exercise caution when dealing with Reflections Bath & Spa, Inc., formerly known as Bath Planet Missouri, a Springfield-based bathroom remodeling contractor.

Multiple consumers have reported to BBB that the company accepted substantial down payments but failed to begin projects, issue refunds, or maintain communication. These complaints, some of which were not answered or resolved, have led to the company receiving an “F” rating — the lowest on BBB’s scale. The business also has received negative customer reviews.

Business owner Jim Barnett informed BBB that Bath Planet Missouri has been shut down and is now operating under the name Reflections Bath & Spa, Inc. Despite the rebranding, complaints continue to surface from customers who contracted with the company under its previous name.

Consumer complaints include:

  • A Camdenton resident reported he paid over $4,000 in September 2024 for a bathroom remodel that never started.
  • A Linn Creek man told BBB that he paid more than $7,000 in August 2024 for a reconfiguration project that remains untouched.
  • A Gainesville customer stated that he paid over $7,000 in October 2024 for a one-day remodel that has been repeatedly rescheduled without progress or refund.

Pamela Hernandez, BBB Springfield Regional Director, stated:

“If someone pays you to do a job, you should either complete the work or return their money. Most importantly, communicate and with good faith if something doesn’t go as planned.”

The company was registered with the Missouri Secretary of State as American Reflections Bath & Spa, Inc. in November 2020. A fictitious name registration for Bath Planet Missouri was filed in October 2024. According to its Facebook page, the business began marketing itself as Reflections Bath & Spa, Inc. on May 29, 2025.

In July 2025, Bath Planet confirmed to BBB that Bath Planet Missouri was previously a franchisee but is no longer an authorized dealer.

“Due to multiple and serious violations of our dealer standards—including a pattern of complaints, failure to deliver contracted services, and negative media attention—we have formally terminated their right to operate under the Bath Planet brand,” the company wrote in an email, adding it is “committed to ensuring that any business operating under the Bath Planet name upholds the highest standards of service and ethics.”

Barnett told BBB he intends to fulfill outstanding customer installations. The company’s listed headquarters is 3615 W. Wayland Street, Springfield, Missouri—a property owned by Barnett, according to Greene County records.

BBB tips for hiring a contractor:

  • Research thoroughly: Check BBB Business Profiles at BBB.org or call 888-996-3887.
  • Ask for references and contact them directly.
  • Get a signed contract detailing the scope of work, timeline, and terms.
  • Verify insurance and bonding.
  • Use a credit card for payments to retain dispute options.
  • Avoid paying in full upfront: Pay in stages, with the final payment upon satisfactory completion.
  • Request lien waivers to ensure subcontractors and suppliers are paid.

Consumers who believe they’ve been wronged are encouraged to file complaints with BBB and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
