Skyline Realty in Medford, MA, is a real estate firm that has thrived in the Boston area for over two decades. Alex Haidar’s journey into real estate began right after college. At first, he honed his skills at another real estate company. Then in 1999, he and two partners opened their firm in a modest 150-square-foot office in downtown Boston. The business partners started off leasing rental homes and selling properties. “Then we moved into condo conversions and property management,” Haidar said.

Formerly based in Cambridge, Skyline Realty recently moved to a larger office in Medford and focuses on property management for rental property owners and condo associations in the Greater Boston area with properties from Boston’s South End to Charlestown, to Winchester and Somerville. 

Haidar shared more about Skyline Realty’s typical operations. “We handle hundreds of units. We split them into two categories: condo associations and investment properties. Our clients are generally landlords who don't want to have a hands-on relationship with the tenants. So they hire us to manage all the maintenance inquiries and finances and collecting the rents, sending out code and compliance notices and doing property inspections. And we do the same thing for condo associations, where the board members of a given association don't want to deal with the day-to-day management and governance of a condo association. So they hire us to handle 6-D certificates, condo questionnaires, all the maintenance issues that come up, emergencies and also finance and collecting homeowners association fees. And we also manage their projects as well.”

Additionally, Haidar noted that he is a general contractor and elaborated on the types of projects Skyline Realty manages for rental property owners and condo associations—both small and large. “We consider things like painting to be smaller projects. Some of our projects are quite significant. We do roof replacements, building envelopes, siding, foundations, civil engineering work, structural engineering work. And we also do a lot of energy assessments to make sure there are no leaks in the thermal barrier of the building. We're quite involved in many different projects.” the business owner revealed.

For Haidar, he finds the greatest joy in his job’s daily triumphs, such as problem-solving and bringing peace of mind to his clients and residents. “I like making people happy that they can go to bed at night and sleep, knowing that their property is going to have a response in the case of an emergency—that things are going to get done. I like the little successes that lead to the bigger successes because every day is a success. Every day we solve a problem. So every day it could be a small problem, as little as a dishwasher not working to a big problem as one unit is leaking on top of another unit that's going to require a complete renovation. So, I like the little successes, the little happiness that we give our clients,” he said.

Beyond the realm of business, Haidar cherishes his roots the vibrant and diverse community of Boston. As a native of the area, he finds comfort and familiarity in its rich tapestry of neighborhoods and properties. Moreover, he appreciates the dynamic nature of the real estate market, where every day presents new opportunities to learn and grow. He concluded the interview, saying “It's never a boring job. You have the historic properties, the modern properties, the newly constructed properties. So there's always something new to learn.”
