Remodels, renovations and restorations

In the charming state of Maine, where pristine landscapes and a sense of community thrive, Pratt Builders, LLC brings craftsmanship and dedication to the home-building trade. Carpenter Christian Pratt founded the business in 2013 in Gorham, ME. In this article, Pratt discusses the evolution of his company from when he started over ten years ago to where his business is today.

Pratt's journey into the world of carpentry was destined from the start. Coming from a family of carpenters on both sides, Pratt's connection to carpentry was woven into his DNA. "My father was a carpenter my whole life, along with both grandfathers. I was born into it almost. I've been working for my dad since I was six or seven," Pratt said.

The legacy of being a third-generation carpenter is a source of pride for Pratt. It underscores his deep-rooted passion for his craft. The business owner's early experiences honing his skills alongside his father laid the foundation for a lifelong love and career.

Before venturing into his own business, Pratt gained valuable experience working for other carpenters, including his father. He even diversified his skill set by spending a few years in plumbing, making him a well-rounded contractor.

At first, Pratt Builders gained new clients through subcontracting and new construction jobs. Once Pratt gained experience, word spread, and he could point his company in a specific direction. Today, Pratt Builders focuses on higher-end remodels, kitchen and bath renovations, and restorations. "We do a lot of restoring farmhouses. We do some jacking, structural reinforcement, structural remodeling, and stuff like that. But I'd say, mostly who we're serving now are residential remodels and additions. We're not a new construction builder." The business owner also noted his passion for craftsmanship, specializing in the technical aspects of carpentry. "When other contractors get in over their head or something's too technical, they have called me to come in," he noted about his carpentry expertise.

When working with clients, Pratt often takes a design-build approach, actively designing and building the project. This method sometimes eliminates the need for an architect. With an eye for design and years of experience, Pratt guides clients through design and construction, ensuring their visions are met throughout the process. Pratt takes pride in helping his clients realize their dreams for their homes. "Bridging the gap between what they want and actually making it happen and seeing that the clients are very happy is probably the most rewarding part of my job," he said.

Born and raised in Maine, Pratt enjoys the picturesque state. He said that he loves the outdoors and the community. When asked what he likes most about Maine, Pratt replied, "The type of people in Maine seem to be a little different. I've traveled a lot, so the people."
