David Schwartz, owner of Schwartz Tree Care in Cranston, RI, has been a practicing arborist for over 50 years, but it didn’t start that way. David was a psychology major at Post College in New York, but he took a class that, in his words, “drove him to start climbing trees” instead.
“After college, I needed something that put me in touch with nature,” Schwartz explained. “With tree climbing and being immersed in nature, there is no sense of time, no rush. You have to stay in the moment and be focused.”
In 1969, Schwartz climbed his first tree in Booneville, Missouri after answering an advertisement for Harold’s Tree Service, and he’s never looked back. Fast forward to 1984, Schwartz Tree Care opened for business offering professional tree services, landscaping, and plant management including naturalized pruning, design, tree removal, fertilization, insect, and disease control.
The heart of Schwartz Tree Care lies in the hands-on, personalized approach that David and his skilled team bring to their clients. From naturalized pruning to maintainable designs, the services offered reflect not just technical proficiency, but a genuine love for the environment. David Schwartz is more than an arborist; he's a custodian of nature, deeply concerned about the loss of older trees due to various factors like poor care, construction damage, and environmental challenges.
“I understand that nature’s life processes perform like a beautiful ballet,” David explained. “We take the growth of the plant through the years into account in our management practices and create landscapes that are not only visually appealing, but environmentally sustainable.
At 77 years old, David embodies a sense of calm and wisdom, steering away from drama and emphasizing quality over quantity. The business, structured with a single dedicated crew, operates with a mission to make a positive impact on the environment, one project at a time. For David, “success isn't measured only in monetary terms; it's the natural byproduct of a job well done.”
