BBB Omaha Warning: Consumers report Omaha Steaks impersonator
(BBB)
In a recent investigation, Better Business Bureau (BBB) of the Midwest Plains has uncovered a fraudulent company impersonating Omaha Steaks, a well-established and longstanding BBB Accredited Business since 1967. BBB has received several Scam Tracker reports related to the fraudulent business, which operates under the name "Omaha Steak Factory.” Its website, www.omahasteakfactory.com, was active as of Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Notably, there is no registration for this business with the Nebraska Secretary of State.
A BBB investigation revealed that the domain omahasteakfactory.com was privately registered by NameSilo, LLC, on 12/8/2023, and is set to expire on 12/8/2024. The registrant's contact location is listed as Phoenix, AZ.
Key findings:
- The website uses the branding and logo of Omaha Steaks, causing confusion among consumers.
- Omaha Steak Factory claims to be associated with "DemKota Ranch Beef" in its About Us section, but this contradicts the legitimate business, DemKota Ranch Beef, which has issued a Scam Alert stating they do not sell products online.
- Numerous incomplete sentences and lack of contact information on the Omaha Steak Factory website raise red flags about its legitimacy.
- Consumers reported instances of non-receipt of ordered products, false locations, and misleading information, leading to suspicions of a scam.
- The email address [email protected], associated with Omaha Steak Factory, has been linked to multiple scam reports.
BBB strongly advises consumers to ignore any solicitations from Omaha Steak Factory. Legitimate information about Omaha Steaks can be found on their official website, https://www.omahasteaks.com.
“At Omaha Steaks, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products and the care we put into ensuring every order is packed and delivered to our customers with ease and accuracy, direct from Omaha, Nebraska,” said Omaha Steaks President and CEO Nate Rempe. “We are dismayed that scammers have attempted to use our brand and likeness to cheat unsuspecting consumers. We are working with the BBB and others as they investigate this matter and work to shut down any imposter sites claiming to represent our brand. We ask our customers to always be vigilant when shopping online and invite everyone to shop with confidence by visiting us online at our official site: www.omahasteaks.com.”
Impersonation is a very common tactic used by scammers. Imposter scams come in all shapes and sizes with the same intent — to trick you out of your money and/or personal information.
