A small home improvement business with old-school values

Beantown Home Improvements has been remodeling the outside of people’s homes since 2014, and owner, Jim DelPrete, says his six core principles of honesty, integrity, transparency, communications, quality, and follow-through have helped him succeed.

Building and construction runs in the family, and Jim is the third generation in the business. His Grandfather had a large construction company in the 1930s, building homes and roads on the South Shore of Massachusetts. His 12 kids worked for him while going to school, and eventually, Jim’s father, Paul, and three of his aunts and uncles started their own companies to build residential homes. After high school, upon his father's advice, DelPrete went to Plymouth State College to pursue a degree in Environmental Science and Chemistry and worked in the Hazardous Materials field on the big dig in Boston. The calling of the building trade eventually brought him ‘home’ to follow in the family's footsteps but with a twist. Beantown Home Improvements took a slightly different path than the rest of Jim’s clan by focusing on remodeling versus new construction, citing his need to keep things different and challenging.

“This line of work is in my blood,” DelPrete explained, “but I get bored easily so remodeling means it’s different every time.”

Beantown Home Improvements specializes in home and business exterior work such as roofing, siding, skylights, windows, doors, gutters, and decks.  They also provide interior renovations on a project basis during the winter months. DelPrete believes his old-school values of transparency and communication are the key to his customer’s happiness and, ultimately, his company’s success.

“My business goal is simple: Just be me,” DelPrete explained. “I’m a straight shooter, I call it like I see it, and firmly believe that no one likes to be sold! My goal is to be up front and honest with every client, earn your respect, and offer outstanding customer service."

“You can never over communicate with your customer,” DelPrete continued. “We pride ourselves on telling it like it is, and just because Mr. and Mrs. homeowner may not see something, doesn’t mean we’re not going to tell them about it and fix it the right way the first time”

Community involvement is important to Beantown Home Improvements. One of their biggest contributions is through Operation Payback, which DelPrete started in 2017, giving a veteran a free roof each year. They regularly offer significant discounts to active, reserve, and retired United States military personnel.  Other community service projects include working with local schools’ sports programs, fire and police departments, and Habitat for Humanity.

“Helping our service men and women is of major importance to me,” DelPrete, “and I’m always trying to help those who have afforded us the freedoms we have today.

The environment is another area of importance for Beantown Home Improvements. The products they use to clean, light, furnish, renovate, and build their homes must be a part of the greening process. Reducing their environmental impacts means thinking and learning about how they use products, where they came from, and where they’re going.

Beantown Home Improvements has been a Member Accredited business since 2022. DelPrete said being a BBB Accredited Business adds online validation and an air of integrity to his company.

Beantown Home Improvements is located in Middleborough, Massachusetts, serving the South Shore and Greater Boston areas.
