    This company is sending a mass mailing, informing consumers that they are winners in an Australian lottery. The mailing includes a check, made payable to the addressee. The BBB's files show that the check is supposedly issued from LaSalle Bank in New Boston, Michigan. The letter informs consumers that the check amont was "deducted from your winnings to to help you make the applicable tax payment. " The letter then informs consumers that, because they are non-residents of Australia, they must pay taxes on the winnings. The letter informs consumers they must pay one-time tax fee, to allow them to send the money "across Canadian borders".
