Torch Awards Resource Page

About the Program:

The BBB Torch Awards program shines the spotlight on businesses and nonprofits that exemplify outstanding ethics. The program has recognized trustworthy businesses since 1999 and launched a nonprofit category in 2016. Since the inception of the program, more than 90 organizations have been presented with the prestigious BBB Torch Award for Ethics.

How it Works:

BBB partners with college students from Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming during their fall semester. Students are paired with nominated organizations, research the business/nonprofit, meet with their leadership teams and work collaboratively together to prepare the application paper. The program provides an out-of-the-classroom ethics learning experience and gives students an opportunity to discover the ways organizations meet the BBB’s six TRUST! Principles. Judging for the awards will occur in January 2018 and winners will be celebrated on April 19, 2018 with a luncheon at the Embassy Suites, Loveland.

The following criteria must be met and maintained throughout the Torch Award process:

  • Must be in business a minimum of 3 years

  • Headquarters location is located in BBB Serving Northern Colorado and Wyoming's service area

  • Remain in good standing with BBB. For businesses, you must achieve and maintain a "B" or higher rating and not have unresolved complaints. Nonprofits must meet BBB's 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
