I am filing this report for my housemate, ***********************. She purchased a 2010 Toyota Corolla from Bergstrom back in 2010. She has had the vehicle serviced by them since that time. In the past Bergstrom recommended that she put new brakes on the car. We got a second opinion from our trusted *********** mechanic and he stated we didn't need new brakes yet. Losing a bit of confidence in Bergstrom. In November of 2022 ******************* had an oil change done at the dealership. The price had gone up to around $72. As I've always changed the oil in my cars since I was a teenager, I told her I would change the oil in her car from now on. I didn't initially change her oil as a special tool is required, which I didn't have. When her car needed it's next oil change, I purchased the required tool and a genuine Toyota oil filter and set out to do the job. I attempted to open the oil cap at the top of the engine where you add oil to the engine; I could not open it by hand. What the heck is this??? The cap is never that tight; you should always be able to open it by hand. I had to use a set of pliers to open it. Next, the car is up on a ramp and I've drained the oil and am set to remove the old oil filter. I CAN NOT. The filter cover is suppose to be torqued at 18 foot pounds. It was way, way, way over tightened. I could not budge it. By this time I am extremely upset with Bergstrom. It seems to me that the oil fill cap and the filter cap were over tightened on purpose. I contacted Bergstrom on their website last Monday (****). I told them I expected them to right the wrong that they did and to loosen the filter in their shop. I would drive the car up for them to do that. AND I expected no charge. I have heard nothing from them.
