Signed on a Wednesday (TCT did not have the numbers for the utilities escrow [reserve] correct despite my having to get involved in coordinating between the utility company and TCT multiple times, so the settlement statement had to be re-accomplished while I waited; TCT should have done all of this automatically, of course, and the numbers especially should have been correct given the significant extra work I had to put in to ensure a minimum but fully satisfactory utility reserve was included), and closed my home sale on a Friday but with two (county recording) runs a day, would have expected my bank wire to also have gone out the very latest on Friday afternoon since everything (buyer and seller) was signed days prior. It was all set up and ready to go Friday morning in any case, but nothing happened. As of Tuesday afternoon, the following week, I still do not have my money from TCT. This is of tremendous, gut wrenching concern...was the money mis-wired, who has the money, what happened?? With all the fraud occurring in wire transfers, I am sick to my stomach at what might have happened. Called TCT, got passed around, finally got routed to a manager. She said many staff called in sick today (after a three day weekend), and 'we just couldn't get to it before now.' Really? Is this who you want to manage the money from your real estate sale...staff don't show up for work, they hold on to your money for an undue period of time? Capturing the float (interest) from holding onto my money over four - five days (from time money was received from buyers) must have been a nice premium on top of the substantial escrow and other fees charged by Thurston County Title. I closed on my new home with Lewis County Title Co. No staffing or inter-staff coordination issues, no drama, no stress, much better service and Lewis County Title's escrow fees are significantly lower than Thurston County Title. Lewis County's staff shows up for work and I didn't have to get involved with corrections and chasing down what happened to my wire transfer, which was very stressful. They simply performed their jobs at the level expected. At Thurston County Title I could have requested a cashier's check I suppose and snail mailed it to my bank in the 4-5 days they took to process and execute a wire transfer. In summary, despite taking extreme personal measures to ensure an accurate and efficient closing, I still experienced the inaccuracies in escrow processing and delays in receiving my money referenced above. My lack of confidence in TCT was unfortunately warranted. Even double and triple checking their work, I was let down. In addition to the considerable stress caused by TCT's lack of efficiency, issues with staff coordination and accuracy, the fact my funds were not available to me during my move, prevented me from making a major, much needed purchase at my new location. I am still sorting out the direct and indirect costs to me of this haphazard, "shoot from the hip" closing that left my funds unavailable to me.
