My toy poodle was injured while being boarded by a Rover sitter which resulted in me picking him up a night early. Rover opened a case in the event my dog needed emergency care, then denied the claim on the basis that it was a pre-existing injury. Their determination was made despite the hand-written notes of the veterinarian that my dog had an injury to his neck and paw. I was advised that I could appeal the denial by having my Vet summit additional documentation directly to Rover within 30 days. Before my Vet had the chance to submit additional documentation, Rover emailed that as a courtesy they would provide a courtesy payment in the amount I would have received if the claim had been approved. However, I would have to sign a settlement release in which Rover would not be held at fault, and I would agree to not share my experience in a public forum that could negatively impact Rover's reputation. My dog showed no improvement from the prescribed treatment, and I was advised that he would unlikely improve. My Vet told me to keep him comfortable since he was still eating, but if he goes two days without eating that meant it was his time...time to put him to sleep so he would not continue to suffer. My sweet pooch died exactly two weeks from the day he was injured. The pain of losing him is unbearable at times as it feels like a loss of a family member. Instead of me being able to peacefully grieve this loss, I have received emails over the weekend from Rover informing me that I can no longer use Rover unless I agree to their updated terms of service, to include changes to their arbitration agreement. Rover does not want to be accountable for the injury that occurred while my dog was in the custody of their boarder. My dog taught me the meaning of unconditional love, and because of that love I am sharing my painful experience. I do not want any other pet owner to experience what I am going through right now; therefore, my silence can never be bought.Review from Paloma P

Came back after an 8 day trip to find my house absolutely destroyed. **************** didnt take my dog out but twice in 8 days and then the 2 times she did, he didnt stay long enough to pee. My house was horrible. My dogs were starving and neglected. I am filing a police report. I at first thought rovers guarantee would be helpful but they offered me reimbursement for cleaning and nothing else. Not a single ***** for my other destroyed items. They refunded me which is good I guess but in a follow up call they told me that bc my dog has had occasional accidents I am at fault. Even though initially the sitter said she was at fault and rover agreed that the damages were directly caused by her not taking him out. Now they are backtracking. I went to review her today and surprise it wouldnt let me. So I cant even warn other pet owners. On top of all of that, I provided days of video evidence and photo evidence that was plenty sufficient to at a minimum remove her but guess what, she still has a 5 star rating and is listed as number 1. I will only remove my review if Rover does the right thing and removes her as a sitter and pays my claim. Otherwise, they dont hold up any of their promises and you should avoid them at all costs. Seriously, I see a class action in their future and I may be the one who gets it started.Review from Philip G

Rover.com is a multi-million dollar business that scams its customers. It is a host website and guarantees nothing. They take a percentage of your payment to list pet walkers and pet sitters Rover knows nothing about. They do not vet the people who are listed on their website. We learned this too late. The person who stayed in our home had superlative reviews. However, she was an alcoholic who drank my liquor and had to be carted to the hospital. We didn't learn about this until we returned from our trip. Our dog spent several days alone. The stories on the internet are horrifying. Check them out. Rover accepts no responsibility, proclaiming they just provide the names of sitters and walkers as a courtesy. Please, for the sake of your pet, do not use Rover.com.Review from Omar D

Please note that is a review of Rover, not all the really great people that are providing services. Unfortunately, our two wonderful dogs were completed neglected by the sitter we chose in spite of their great reviews. The neglect reached a point that they were not properly fed for a week during our trip and were emaciated, they were placed in an enclosure and not walked by the sitter and their family members. All the pictures provided were staged. We called the emergency number upon walking onto the property to collect our dogs discovering their condition. To date, Rover has done absolutely nothing to provide support, investigate, or even contact us after we provided them video and photo proof of the neglect and conditions. The warning here for any person that feels that Rover will not only vet the sitters or support their client base is absolutely wrong. Their focus is their fees, not your pet's wellbeing. As there are some wonderful individuals offering services, please ensure that you check on your choice and do not rely on Rover for anything other than an advertising platform. The final result from our side was to contact the city animal services and file a complaint that they took seriously to actually looked into the neglect.Review from Leanne P

How can this be a A+ BBB rating with their 1-star overall review rating?! That doesn't make sense! I used Rover three times when I went on business trips because there wasn't a professional boarding place near where I lived. All three experiences were horrendous! My dog is a small breed with long fur. One woman insisted on picking him up and returning him to my house. Even though I offered to drop him off and pick him up at her house. It was like she didn't want me to see her house. But she was a sweet grandmotherly type and I thought she was just being nice. When she brought him home, his fur was competley matted and full of burs. It took me HOURS to pick them all out. When I asked her about it, she said she hadn't noticed. ? I asked how that could be? She got mad and said she didn't want to keep him anymore. The next lady lived in a tiny one-bedroom townhouse with a 10' X 10' dirt patch out back. When I went there to vet it out the place was at least clean and no other animals. Everything looked fine though tiny. But hey, my dog is small so I thought it would be fine. The morning I dropped my dog off, the place was a wreck. Trash everywhere, some man asleep on her sofa. And she had FIVE large dogs she was watching. They could barely move around in the living room/kitchen area (the only space other than her bedroom and bathroom). I hesitated to leave my dog but I had no choice as my business flight was leaving in a few hours. When I picked him up, he was lilterally stressed and shaking. His blanket was completely torn to shreds. The woman apologized and said she didn't see it happening. That means she wasn't watching the dogs! What if one of those big dogs killed my dog?! With the third one (a guy), my dog came back filthy, covered in dried mud and f**** with puss oozing from one eye! BEWARE: All of these people had 5-star reviews on Rover! I ended up selling and moving somewhere I could have access to a reputable boarding company.Review from Dennise F

Tired of house sitter to take care of my dog. She proceeded to put hand paper towels in my toilet which stopped up and created a backup which one from the second floor all the way to the basement. I had to involve my insurance company and they paid approximately $7,000 to fix my house. Rover pretended to want to help but in the end said I couldn't prove that it was the dog sitter. I live by myself and I know I didn't do it and I saw the plumbers pull out hand towels from the toilet. They even came out of the bathtub. I will never use Rover again if you check out they're online reviews there are many like this. This is only one story I have about Rover as I've hired other sitters there who have not stayed when they're supposed to stay or done what they were supposed to do. Don't trust your pet to Rover. If you do don't expect Rover to protect you or your property in any wayReview from Adam Z

I will never work with Rover again. Please don't affiliate yourself with them. I hired a sitter on Rover. I left early for a short vacation and by 9PM that day. hadn't heard from them. I tried texting and calling. Nothing. Anything could be wrong - an accident, who knows. But I didn't know if anyone was taking care of my 16 year old dog for the last 14 hours. So I called Rover. They tried to reach the sitter - I think they had trouble but I wasn't sure. I told them all I need to know is if the sitter is there and if my dog is ok. I pleaded with them to go over to my house and check. Hire a local sitter and pay them $100 to lmk what was up. Rover would have none of it. Instead they sent me an offer for $20 on my next booking and told me they aren't responsible for the sitter. Never have I experienced a company being so cheap and inhumane. Mind numbing blind greed, pure stonewalling, an organization that wouldn't not do the obvious and responsible thing to make sure a dog and or sitter were OK. I blasted them with profanity, but nothing mattered. Their $20 offer told me they were pure greedy. The company has no moral compass and should be trashed with fanfare.Review from Cindy M

I am a sitter for Rover and I think its ridiculous that they take 20% of my pay for their fees. That is a lot of money to some people and seems excessive to me.Review from Victoria W
