On 12/15/2021, we hired First Choice General Contractor LLC (UBI ***********. Owners: ****************************** and **************************************) to remodel our Lakewood home. The work included a kitchen remodel, 2-1/2 *************** room remodel, luxury vinyl flooring in the family room, drywalling of the popcorn ceilings that were in most of the home and then texturizing them, painting of the full interior, new baseboards throughout the home, new interior doors, new trim around the windows and doors, and refacing of the family room fireplace. The contract we signed indicated the project would be completed for $150,000. Later change orders added an additional $21K to the project cost. The work started on January 21 and by 4/1, we had paid installments totaling $149,495. On 4/29, they gave us an accounting showing all $149,495 had been spent (even though only about 35-40% of the work was done) and said they couldn't do any more work until we came up with more money! This accounting document is clearly fictional. It shows that the 1st $15K payment to the cabinet *** was made on 1/15 but the cabinet *** says that payment was not made until 3/2. The document also shows a total of $27K paid to the cabinet *** but the company says it has only rec'd $18K and is owed $21K. Also, the contract shows the ceiling work was to cost $6600 but the accounting document shows they paid the drywaller a $7K "retainer" in December (how does the retainer amount exceed the job cost?) According to the accounting document, the "retainer" and subsequent payments for ceiling work total just under $22K. Lies! We are living with my daughter because we can't live in the home. The bathrooms aren't usable. We have no kitchen. We have no vinyl flooring on the 1st floor. Some doors are missing. Fireplace is undone. Cabinet/counters are incomplete. They refuse to complete the project. We estimate they've stolen about $60K from us. We are working with an attorney to pursue them.
