• Stop junk mail
For removal from most national advertising mailing lists, register at ($1 fee) or send your name and home address, along with a check or money order, payable to IMS, for $1 to Attn: IMS, Mail Preference Service (MPS), P.O. Box 643, Carmel, NY 10512-0643.

• Stop pre-approved credit card offers
The credit bureaus offer a toll-free number that enables you to “opt-out” of having pre-approved credit offers sent to you for five years. Call (888) 567-8688 or visit for more information.

• Stop telemarketing calls
