More than 20,000 Pounds of Documents Shredded at Secure Your ID Day

October 30, 2017

Roanoke, VA - BBB Serving Western Virginia is proud to report more than 20,000 pounds of documents shredded during their semiannual ‘Secure Your ID’ document shredding event held on October 28th. BBB served 391 vehicles, resulting in 22,000 pounds of shredded personal documents. In two Secure Your ID Day events held in 2017, BBB served 811 vehicles and shredded 42,000 pounds of documents.

The BBB has been hosting the semiannual event since 2008. BBB’s from across North America join in on the event designed to protect consumers from the growing threat of identity theft. Consumers and businesses are encouraged each April and October to attend this free community service event and properly shred and destroy sensitive documents using industrial shredders supplied by Commonwealth Document Management. BBB staff members also attend each event to provide advice and tips for identity theft protection.

The BBB will once again host the Secure Your ID event on April 28, 2018. The BBB thanks its partners for their support during the 2017 Secure Your ID events. They include: Cole & Associates CPAs, LLC, WFXR News, Commonwealth Document Management, and the Salem Civic Center.

With a new victim of identity theft coming every two seconds, taking a few minutes to shred paper documents could save a consumer from becoming another statistic. It only takes one misplaced personal document to give a thief everything needed to steal your identity.
