Hickey Electric caused a fire in my oil furnace on 2/23/2021 resulting in more than $50,00 structural damage, loss of my home for months, and significant emotional stress, unreimbursed medical expenses, veterinary expenses and serious financial losses. The company blamed the fire on me as the homeowner which is a fraudulent statement. Hickey Electric sent a young, inexperienced, incompetent technician ('D') to perform a service call on my oil furnace. When the technician arrived he stated "I hate oil" and ended up bypassing the thermostat which was turned off for safety and setting the oil in the furnace bowl on fire. It took the Amherst County Monelison Fire Department at least an hour to extinguish the oil fire. The technician wanted to sell me a $5,000 heat pump system which would not be feasible since I only have a one (1) amp electrical system. Today's new technicians are not trained to work on oil furnaces. The technician set the fire by hotwiring causing a 'puff back', did not call 911 for help and tried to leave before the fire was out. He asked for $39.95 for the service call, and then said he would not charge me and left. Contact with the CEO of Hickey resulted in a denial as he blamed me for setting the fire. My homeowner's is processing the claim however, thousands of dollars of unreimbursed expenses means a devastating financial loss to me. I am widowed, elderly and live on a fixed income. I find the lack of support from Hickey Electric reprehensible as they have caused damage to at least two (2) other homes in the area with oil furnaces. Do not do business with this company if you have an oil furnace, they do not provide good technician service nor are they willing to accept responsibility for their technician setting a house furnace fire and causing irreparable harm, particularly to a low income, widowed senior female.

We regret that the homeowner misunderstood the existing situation that was not within our power to change. We do have very competent experienced Master licensed HVAC technicians who take great care of our customers, and they do their best to represent Hickey ethically and professionally.
