Problems with Product/Service

Complaint: A letter was recently mailed regarding the following issues to the owner of Rock Creek Mulch, *** ********, and to date I have received no reply. I hired his company to place a large quantity of mulch on my property. All beds were to be sprayed for weeds before the mulch was placed. While I hired his company to do this same work for me several years ago and had no subsequent problems with the services provided, that has not been the case this time. First, a substantial amount of mulch was spilled on my yard during application and requests for cleanup were delayed to such an extend that eventually we cleaned it up ouselves. Second, I do not believe the beds were properly sprayed before mulch was applied, as I had copious healthy weeds growing through the mulch 2 days after it was placed. When I requested they come spray again, the person was over zealous and his spraying has turned plants in the mulch beds brown and killed the grass along the borders of the beds in my front yard. Third, I feel that, compared to the mulch application done years ago, that this application was very skimpy/thin. I am not a mulch expert, but I feel I was "short-changed" in the amount of mulch placed and that is part of the cause of the subsequent weed problems.
Desired Settlement: I would appreciate it if *** ******** would do me the courtesy of coming to my property, performing an inspection and explaining his company's actions. I would expect a responsible company to explain its actions, accept responsibility and attempt in some manner to remedy what I consider a job poorly done. This could be a partial refund, helping to repair damages done to grass/plants, providing more mulch, or simply helping to correct my perception of things if I am the one in error.
Business Response: I met with the consumer. We reviewed his concerns and I provided $40 for him to purchaese grass seed. Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.
Consumer Response: Please see my previously submitted email, copied here, regarding my acceptance of the resolutoin of this complaint. Hello. This message is to inform you that today I was contacted by *** ********, the owner of Rock Creek Mulch. He came to my property as requested to inspect the work performed by his company. He felt that the amount of mulch applied was adequate and as promised/ordered. He felt bed preparation/weed treatment was adequate. He felt instructions for clearing brush were handled by his company as given by me. He offered to do whatever I deemed necessary to "make this right". While I made it clear that I felt the job done was poor, I accepted his explanations and did not question his expertise in his field. I did not request monetary refund or additional services from his company/mulch placement/etc. He did offer to provide some money that I could use to purchase grass seed/etc. for re-seeding areas destroyed by improper spraying. This I did accept and he provided me with $40.00 cash, an amount he arrived at and offered completely on his own. The meeting ended amicably. While I made it clear that I felt his company did a poor job, I do accept and respect his explanations and appreciate the time he took to meet with me personally. This was all I had ever requested. I now consider this matter closed, though it will be left to me personally to re-seed/repair damages done and deal with what I anticipate will be ongoing weed issues due to improper bed preparation prior to mulch application. I do thank the BBB for their assistance in getting this matter addressed, if not resolved, as my personal letter did not trigger action. If there is anything further I need to do regarding this complaint, please do not hesitate to contact me. I do hope I have done no damage to the reputation of Mr. ******** or his company, as I realize online postings and opinions carry great weight with customers who might be considering using Rock Creek Mulch in the future. While I cannot recommend this company to anyone if I was personally asked for an opinion, I do not wish to do anything to publicly damage Mr. ******** or his company's reputation. I feel all future customers should form their own opinion about the company and there is nothing negative that in good conscience I would feel compelled to post online in order to warn people away from considering doing business with this company. I am sure Mr. ******** tries hard to do a good job for his customers, it is just unfortunate that in my case this did not occur! Sincerely, ***** ** ********
