We decided to go with ISLAND WAY not because they were the cheapest (far from that) but because the salesperson was genuine, he told us that the project typically takes 6- 8 weeks after permitting and they have their own in-house employees and don't use contractors except for the electrician... • The city of Gulfport approved the permit in less than 2 weeks (and within 48 hours for other inspections throughout the project) they finished the pool in just under A YEAR! • Communication was dishonest. • We were ghosted after each installment payment for weeks to months. • Mid-project we were charged an additional $5,000 without approval and was told they would not continue until it was paid, so we paid it. They attempted to charge an additional $4,000 for the footer that was against the contract. • Once the cement was poured it remained a cement hole for almost 6 months causing not only a safety hazard but also a mosquito infestation for us and our neighbors- we could not go in our backyards! • Most of the delays were blamed on the contractors (remember that they sold us on not using contractors). • I wrote the owner on LinkedIn and requested to speak to the head of operations (several times) without response. • Several of their contractors shared that they signed too many contracts and could not keep up and shared their empathy on how long ours was taking. • We had to constantly clean up (dangerous materials, food bags, drink cups, and dirty shirts) after they were on site. • I could go on!!! We apologize for your experience and that we fell short of expectations. Your project had many difficulties that pertained to your property that lengthened the timeline. You had large limestone boulders underground where you wanted to place the pool. Most companies would have pulled off and not continued to build which would be our contractual right due to an underground obstacle.
We had to jackhammer the earth and remove the stone debris in order to make your dream of a swimming pool a reality. We only asked that you covered our costs since this was not covered by your original contract. That is the $5,000 you are referring to. Also when we sell a screen footer we meant it as a standard 8" by 8" footer. You required a much larger footer as Pombos designed a very large 2 story screen. You didn't pay for the larger footer and Island Way absorbed that cost even though you should have paid it. This included a massive amount of extra steel and concrete which we faced 30% increases on pricing last year. We also let you work with our subcontractor and not pay the contractor markup on the large screen enclosure so you saved a ton of money there. In the end you received a great value due to the flexibility of our company. You should have paid much more for the screen and footer than you did and also for the jackhammering of limestone boulders.
Some of your other complaints we can just apologize for we had a big labor and supply chain interruption due to the pandemic that lasted all last year. We still got your pool done and we assure you we barely broke even on it because you were unwilling to pay the proper costs to do the work correctly. If we knew this is how you would act after the pool was complete and during we would have pulled off once we hit the underground boulders, refunded your money and you may have not even gotten any other company to build you a pool. So I hope you can see our side and feel grateful for what you have and not continue to insult us online.
