CAUTION: READ BEFORE YOU PAY A DEPOSIT. On December 9, 2020 we paid Tom Craig Remodeling and Building (Therma Builders) $37,457 as a deposit to build a two-story addition on our home. The next month they were very hard to get a hold of and did not follow through on many of the things they said they would. By January 15th, they had still not filed paperwork to pull permits, so we informed them that we were cancelling our project. The owners Tom D******* and Eric W***** confirmed verbally and in writing that they would give us a full refund for the $37,457 deposit. They told us on 6 different occasions that a check would be dropped off, and they never showed up. I once drove to Tampa to meet Eric to pick it up, and after waiting an hour he failed to show up. We then hired a lawyer who sent two demand letters for payment which they did not respond to. They said that their lawyer would be delivering a release agreement, and that never showed up. We filled a formal police report and were assigned a detective from the economic crime unit who informed us that they had committed felony theft because they had not paid us back. After the detective put some pressure on them we started to get some money back but very slowly and in small amounts from Eric. They spent our money on other projects and debts that they had. It took over 7 months to finally get our money back. Tom D******* the owner did nothing to help. When I spoke to him he said "Your money is just gone, sorry." Tom completely stopped responding to any calls or emails after about a month. This was a reputable company but I wanted to share so others were aware before they engaged with them.Review from Denise R

They are running a scam they use money from one project to cover the cost of another while giving customers the run around ultimately I got my money back after threating to call the police over 9 months of games and run around...I was finally given a post dated check that I had to hold on to for well over a week to be able to cash it...no matter what the review say stay away from this "company" they are running scams...n August 3, 2020 I signed a contract and provided a check in the amount of $6,770.00 to have a bathroom addition added to the home I currently reside in. I met with your team on September 1, 2020 and was advised that I was being blessed with a donation of a bathroom addition and I would cover the cost for drawings and permits, during the meeting. It was decided that the bathroom would be better if we closed in the patio and added it there. At that time I was very excited as the additional space would help. I am a foster mom who has anywhere from 5 to 7 children placed in my home at any given time. I spoke to the owner of the home and they were ok with the addition I completed a notice of commencement as the lese and was advised that permits would be pulled to begin the work. On September 17, 2020 I received notice that my aunt would need to complete the notice of commencement it took a few weeks to meet with my aunt and her husband however, the notice was submitted on October 06, 2020 since that time communication has not been good and even when I am advised that I will get a call back by the various office staff I do not. Although I appreciate the offer of closing the patio and addition of a bathroom. It has been 5 months and my frustration is that I need a second bathroom that was the reason I originally reached out. I am becoming very concerned that I may have made a mistake by choosing to work with the team. I am also concerned that this project will not happen and I have been taken for almost $7000.00. Please advise me as to the status of the permits and the project.Review from jason a

DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!!! Hello, my name is ***** a retired Airforce Veteran. I would like to leave a review of my experience with Tom Craig Remodeling. First off I signed a contract with them on September 16th, 2020, and still, till today they have not finished their job. The work that they did do is very subpar. I hired them to redo my kitchen and bathroom as it turns out this was the biggest mistake I have made when it comes to remodeling my home so far. I should have paid more money and gotten a better company to do the work. One of the owners as far as I know (Craig) of Tom Craig Remodeling was the person doing the bid on the work. I showed him what needed to be done as well as giving him a full description of all the problems. He came back with a bid that was at least $7000 less than any other bid. I asked him if he was sure of the price and stated does he need to have electricians and or plumbers come over to possibly give a more accurate quote. He stated that that wouldn't be necessary. This was a job that was to be handled through my insurance so the insurance had the money. I told them this and was told this was not a problem they work with insurance companies all the time. I was told the job would take nine days to complete and it is very clear at this point they don't keep their word. Every step of the way you could see there was no good communication between me and the company and or between the company and their workers. They never provided me with any clear dates as to when they would be arriving at my home to work. It was almost as bad as dealing with the cable companies (we will be there between 8 am and 5 pm). Their employees were working fast but doing everything out of order then had to come back ad re-do things every time. I would point things out but was told I was told to do this or told to do it this way. I was told they fired Craig for underbidding my job but this was not my problem I already signed a contract with them for a set price. As the days turned into months they began to complain that they have not been paid. My response was you told me this would not be a problem that you worked with insurance companies all the time. But me being a good honorable person did everything in my power to talk to the insurance company to get them at least half of the money. The insurance told me they would not send out a payment till they reached a halfway point so this is what I told to them. Every day became an argument with them about something that they screwed up and needed to re-do or when they were going to even show up at my home. There have been days and months that they have not shown up at my home. When they speak to you they try to sound nice and polite but everything that comes out of their mouths is nothing but lies or half-truths. They will say how they went out of their way to help me and even did work for free. This is not entirely true. I asked them to make a few minor changes but told them I would pay them to make the changes. They said they would do them for free but then got upset when they did not do the changes correctly and I wanted it done correctly. They would state we are doing it for free! I don't care if it's free or not when you do something you do it right or not at all especially when I offered to pay to have it done. Then they would complain that they are working for free that they have not been paid. Again not my problem they told me they work with the insurance companies all the time and knew the process. I eventually got the money from the insurance company then they began harping me for the money. Mind you this is already months down the road and a bunch of screwups later but a good portion of the work was done and what was not done or done correctly yet I was told would be rapped up soon. I have to say I was fooled by their kind polite way of addressing the customer. And they would give apologies for what has gone on and how long it has taken. I would say 75% of the work was done if you don't include the fact of bad tile work and the wrong granite but they said they would fix it all so I gave them 3/4 of the money (bad on me for doing this). I should have never done that. (Don't ever give more than half the money till the job is finished). Now it has been close to six months since they have last been over to do any work. I spoke with my lawyers and sent them a letter of intent hoping this would get them to start working again but they still have not come back to finish the work. They claim things are on backorder mainly the correct granite so I did some digging. I called the company that has the granite said at the time they had it in stock and or could have more here in just a few days. So as I said previously said don't trust them they do nothing but lie. At this point, they don't pick up my calls so I have to drive 45 minutes to speak to them. Every time I do drive out to speak to them they try to talk nice and polite to me about how they are working on things. They have made dates to come out and work and have broken their word so many times at this point I would never trust anything they would ever tell me. I have over 40 phone conversations recorded between me and them. I made them aware that I record all my conversations also I have a lot of pictures of all damage current and previous that still needs to be fixed. I will be moving forward with a lawsuit against them in the near future.
