I am currently dealing with colonial penn for a policy for my grandmother who passed in January. I sent certified mail the documents that have been requested 4 separate times. I confirm each time exactly what should be sent. And somehow I end up with more letters asking for the same info. I have also discovered that my grandmother paid more in premiums than the value of the policy. And don't bother with their customer service. It's garbage. They all repeat the same script, nobody actually gets anything done and there's not a person in claims you can actually talk to. Terrible company. Zero stars.Review from Anita M

Colonial Penn has the absolutely worse customer service team, they do Not follow instructions and management does Not assist with any concerns or complaints. There is No follow up calls, just take your money even if they mess up your bank account. My mother and I have spoken to 3 , yes 3 different customer service representatives on 3 separate occasions and still not following instructions. If they call hang up I do Not recommend them to anyone!Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

Both parents religiously paid their premiums. When each one passed, the policy paid less than $1000 for dad and the following year a little more than $1000 for mom. They both paid way, way more into that policy. Not worth it for what was received!!!!!Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

Called for an explanation on how the elderly can afford such high costs due to the number of units needed. The NC agent hung up on me instead of answering my questions. This company needs to be held accountable for the business practices they operate by. I will be writing to my congresswoman and senators concerning this. I would not recommend this company for insurance on the insects in my yard! I am needing 4 policies and he hung up on me, really!!!Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

After my mom died Colonial Penn took forever to pay with one excuse after another. After we finally received the money we discovered mom had paid significantly more in premiums than what they “claimed” the policies were worth. No, there were not canceled policies involved.Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

I would give no stars if I could. I have never in my life been confronted with such poor customer service. My uncle died in December 2023 and while my brother and I have done and answered all repetitive requests concerning his coverage, after weeks of calls from myself and the funeral service, we are no closer to getting this claim satisfied. My mother took out the policy. She died over 10 years ago without changing the beneficiaries. My brother continued to pay the premium. We are the only heirs of record and have sent a notarized form stating this. Everytime I call, they still ask for my deceased mother's address and phone number. They even told the funeral home they needed the addresses & phone # from the past 10 years! WTactualF! They don't have a way to send or receive secure email and insist all correspondence be either faxed or snail mailed. I have spent more time calling them than the policies worth and each time I get a different representative who always starts the process as if I never contacted them. After speaking to a rep last week, she assured me Colonial Penn had everything needed. However, today I received a letter acknowledging the claim and that they now need my (still dead) mother to verify. Surprise. I am reporting this to the NJ insurance board and am considering legal action.Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

First payment drafted 11-18-2018. This year (2024) I start receiving mail stating I am eligible to INCREASE my coverage of $4718 by $1750 for another $29.95 per month. I called them, ask what I was paying for as I thought I had life ins. Policy for $10,000. "No, your policy is 6 units in amount of $61.30 per month. But you do have a rider for $10,000 for accidental death" I was shocked. I told the person I have as of 3-18-2024 paid in $4,070. What happens if I continue paying and live another 5-7yrs? Colonial Penn KEEPS those premiums for the honor of issuing me a policy. If I cancel, I get no refund, no insurance. So I am now going to be paying them for just taking advantage of an 81yr old by collecting her money EVERY MONTH I live past my paid in amount. Do not put money in this company. I want a paid up policy for my $4718, payable on my death with no future payments required by me. At that point, Colonial Penn is only returning money I put in the account. They are not paying any policy. I cannot afford another life insurance now, so I have no choice but to give them my money every month til I die. What a ripoff. Sybil P*******Review from Felipe S

Grandma passed thought she was covered but because of 1 late payment after years of paying she had been canceled definitely not a good company to deal with they want money they get money but have no code to go by to let you go and then keep your money glad to know they were not the only company she had. But definitely would go somewhere else. I myself am already looking for my own plan and definitely will not be here.Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response

I have had two separate problems with them messing up my bank account. Customer service that helps you pay your bill apparently does not document or record conversation s there for customers request are Not followed. They are quick to take your money but you have to go through red tape to get it back, even if it is not authorized.Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company Response
