      I have a complaint against Extra Space Storage **** that took over my Life Storage account in in ***********, *****. First of all, I am stationed overseas in ******* and was never late on my payments. I had my storage unit for the last four years without any issues. I received regular emails about price increases and anything else that pertained to my storage. Everything was great until I got a Move Out Confirmation e-mail from Life Storage on 16 Nov 2023 notifying me that all my belongings had been moved out of the storage unit. When I contacted my storage company, I was informed that all my belongings had been auctioned off the day before??? I immediately contacted my bank, ************* about the payments. Chase customer support identified that the automatic payments were canceled by the vendor. When I confronted Life Storage with these facts, they then informed me Life Storage was bought out a few months earlier by another company. (Extra Space Storage ****). The clerk explained that since it was another company, the payments needed to be setup again. I was dumbfounded! I never received any correspondence from the new company. After investigating further, I found the new company had sent all notifications about my account by regular mail to my previous address not my current mailing address! If Extra Space Storage had looked at the accounts they took over they might have noticed that.So, all this could have been averted. Before Life Storage was bought out by Extra Space Storage I had received all notifications via e-mail. I even recived my move out notice by e-mail from Life Storage. From several reviews I have read, it appears this company has a bad reputation for not communicating! Please look elsewhere for another company who cares! I have lost years of family heirlooms and priceless memories!

      We have been with this same storage facility for about 30 years. We received their latest invoice dated 1/30/2024 and payment due date was 2/1/2024. The invoice was not received until Feb 6. I was told we would have to pay a late fee of $138.20 because payment had not been received by Feb. 1. I looked at some of their older invoices and the invoices were always dated around the 12th of the month with a due date of the 1st of the month. What's up with the change in the billing cycle? Totally unreasonable. I told them we wouldn't be paying their late fee and we will be moving to another facility. After 30 years - this is how we were treated.

      I am filing a complaint about the business practices of ************* **** My husband rented a storage unit 1 1/2 years ago for $70 He was hit with a price increase within 6 months to $91. he received notice today about another increase to $140. I checked online and saw an offer for the same size at $38. THIS IS PRICE GOUGING!!!! There are 18 locations in Lafayette and they continue to expand. Do current customers pay for their expansion. They have you in a vulnerable place and take advantage of that. it is unethical and predatory practice

      Extra space and its subsidiary Life Storage engage in shady misleading tactics that borderline on bait-and-switch. I signed up for a unit then was asked to switch to a different storage unit upon arrival. 2 months after what I was told was my rate of rent and not a promotional rate, I received notice in the mail my rent would increase ******%. When speaking to a representative from ExtraSpace I was told this was normal practice.

      Extra Space Management, Inc. Is bad for business! The LIFE STORAGE is located at ************************************************************, the worst company in the area! They promoted their free month, and after 3 months, the rent increased like h*** We have already reported this to the ***** & FEDERAL for their conducting a lousy business and cannot manipulate consumer for their greed and selfishness! The couple lives there for free and begs for more money from those clients' Units. What a huge downgrade from these people who own this kind of scam business

      ******** ******** EXTRA SPACE SELF STORAGE : RATS. MICE. COCKROACHES. CURRENTLY INFESTED. I LOST EVERYTHING AND BECAME ILL FROM EXPOSURE. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS FACILITY. I REPEAT DO NOT RENT FROM THIS FACILITY UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING YOU OWN AND GET EXPOSED TO BIOHAZARDS, HARMFUL BACTERIA AND VIRUSES. I've been ************ since June. I have been paying almost 650 dollars a month. I placed everything I own in this unit because it was in West Loop and large and seemingly clean. I mean, everything I own because I was out of town for months. Upon visiting the unit this January ****, I noticed mice and rat traps in the hallway that were NOT there during summer. There were rat and mice droppings and urine EVERYWHERE. They had eaten through my boxes, eaten through my bins and eaten through my bags. All my clothing, bedding, furniture,. All of my items are contaminated and destroyed. For those of you who might not know this, renters insurance does NOT cover storage units. We tried to clean what we could and place the boxes and high up as we could. The smell of f**** and urine gave my brother and I headaches and the following two weeks I was sick with a fever and blown up sinuses from the exposure. Upon telling the office manager what happened, she seemed nice and first and informed me that I would not have to pay for this month 650 dollars to have my belongings covered in urine making me sick. However, 5 days after my payment was passed due, she called and said " I never said you didn't' have to pay". she locked me out of the facility and locked my unit Friday. She was rude, callous and dismissive. Would not let me talk to any higher **** Hung up on me. The company is not helping at all. I CANT EVEN GET INTO MY UNIT BECAUSE IT IS A DANGEROUS BIOHAZARD THAT I CANNOT BREATHE IN WITHOUT A HAZMAT SUIT AND MASKS. I had to spend **** dollars decontaminating my apartment .My bed frame was hand made and brand new- SOAKED WITH THE SMELL OF URINE.

      In October I verbally signed an agreement with Extra Space Storage to rent a unit at a set price 3 months into renting unit Extra Space raised the cost of the unit from $122 to $158 there was no agreement signed for this amount. I did not receive a new agreement, I did not receive a notification of the increase, I never agreed or signed any document that explained variable rates. Plain and simple bad business practices. It is obvious Extra Space Storage does not care if I rent space which speaks volumes about the integrity of a company.

      As a VP of a fortune 500 company I guess I've been misinformed as to the real value of a BBB accreditation. I thought it had meaning. im dumbfounded a storage unit company with over **** complaints has a A rating. ******* is more than 10 times the size has **** complaints and also an A rating and **** with ****** (not a typo) complaints also has an A rating. (Head scratch emoji). Whats weird is the section that breaks down the rating is empty. To me it looks like each company paid their BBB fees and received an A. How can it be anything else?This company unapologetically uses multiple methods of unjust enrichment against customers and tries to cover it up by tasking mid managers to appear as buisiness owners and respond to all online feedback this controlling the narrative and appearing to care. Then incent new customers to provide 5star reviews before they even get the first bill. Heres 2 of many complaints I have 1 the company plays with the definition of a unit. They define a unit to = any single unit or combination of single units at their discression into what they call a multidoor unit. What? When i called corporate they couldnt even find my name by unit number they said my unit was available!. However the unit doesnt have multiple doors into the same space. It has one door into each physically separated space as to constitute independent units. I got 2 10x20 units at 250 each but when I went to move out of one of them I cant because they are calling it a multi door unit that costs 500 per month. What? Its been months ive been forced to pay for both units with one sole and separate unit empty with w unit number that is not on my bill. . My options? pay a fee and move all contents to another identical unit everything physically to another unit for 350 per month because thats the street price for existing customers. the 250 price on their website is only for new customers. But dont worry they have an A + rating at the BBB!

      This is a review about Extra Space Storage as a whole, not a particular location because it turns out they all perform this practice. I'd like to warn others before they work with this company. Apparently, you rent the unit online and 3 months later they send you a notice that the market price has gone up and now your rent is about 110% more than it was. Yes, your rent has more than doubled in 3 months. I called them to try to work out a better rate and the best they could come up with is a smaller unit for my current price (which I assume would double in 3 months, although ******* couldn't confirm or deny that). You're really stuck because you need that unit and your stuff is already packed in it by movers and now you're in a different state.Just don't do business with them, period!

      Absolute garbage of a company, will hike your rates immediately and they seem to be monopolizing all of the local rental storage units here so we have no free market choice of storage units. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
