The interior of our home, downstairs and upstairs, was painted over the course of the past year. We accepted the estimates and intended to pay that specific amount. Clarifications were made to the initial estimate, after the first floor was completed, to align the cost based on the first-floor experience. We were satisfied with his completion downstairs. A failure when painting upstairs resulted in discussions and explanations. And the painter's dishonesty. At the conclusion of painting each level, the contractor requested we issue checks; six were written and deposited in the company's account!!! We fired the painter although our job was not complete. A variety of errors, inattention to details, failure to follow through with responsibilities, broken or damaged items, paint on the carpet, and more. Upon reviewing the estimates and our payments, my husband and I realized we paid way too much money, far beyond the $12,000 estimates. On two separate occasions, we met with the contractor to discuss our payment/s and request a refund. But the contractor spent all the money. The contractor was dishonest, a fast talker, with excuses and explanations for everything, and the list goes on. Also brought into consideration was his lack of integrity, business practices, and manipulation. He stole our money, spent it, and then stated he did not remember how much he had been paid. We were taken advantage of and are owed thousands of dollars, which the contractor claims he does not have. There is significant documentation, copies of the estimates and more available to support our claim, if needed. The painter/owner is currently working and earning money. We believe a refund is due, he must figure out how to pay us our refund. Total Estimate Down $5,195.00 / Total Paid $20,515.00 (3 checks) Total Estimate Up $8,017.00 but reduced for issues to $7,045.00 Total Paid $13,358.00 (3 checks) Paid Out $33,873.00 Total Due $12,240.00 to Contractor Refund Due $21,633.00

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Moon responding to the comment you received from ***** It's difficult to express the disappointment in this situation. The owner, was dishonest deceitful fraudulent and more. We received an estimate for painting of our downstairs and upstairs and accepted that estimate. The amount, about $12,000 was what we expected to pay upon completion of the job. Straight line failed to complete our upstairs with our expected results. Upon completion in February, after we return from being gone, we found numerous issues confronting us. It included paint on our carpet, paint on wallpaper, rooms left in disarray, damage to hardware, and more. After reviewing how we paid straight line, a total of six checks, three written by me and three written by my husband. The amounts on the checks, which we have copies of, are not anything we determined to owe. It was the owners Direction and guidance that drove

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This individual, owner of Straightline, stole over $20,000 from my husband and me. He has taken the position that he does not owe us anything. My documents support this.

**** has consistently fast talked in an attempt to convince us that we owed him that money for the job which was not completed.

There has been damage to our home. Paint on the upstairs carpeting, broken window sashes, paint splotches on wallpaper, grease  damage to the carpeting from a door placed on it, a lack of cleanup in the upstairs, poor shelving repair that damaged wallpaper, and more.

I could send you many many photos, copies of documents supporting our position including 6 checks and the estimate which was what our financial responsibility was based on. We have a great deal to share. What do you need to move this forward? If you want any of the above to support our stance, please let me know. How should it be sent?

This issue began in February and we want closure. There was dishonesty, falsified documents, lies, broken items, and damage to our beautiful home. **** is a ***** and robbed us. He is the owner, and we hope that he does not do this to any other clients.Should I report this to the police? How do we attain a refund of more than $20,000? If there is some other way to get us our refund please advise?

    Thank you,
