On 17 July 2025, we contracted with Firmstone for a brick apron at the end of our driveway and to replace the steps leading from our family room to the patio. The contract calls for both, and post-construction debris removal. On 25 July, Firmstone had two pallets of bricks and a 3000lb pallet of sand delivered at the bottom of our driveway for the work. Most of the bricks were used on the apron, with about 80 remaining, I presume for the back steps. About 1/3 of the sand was used. The asphalt was excavated to make room for the bricks on 18 July, and was dumped in the street at the left side of the driveway, with the pallet of remaining sand at the edge of the pile. The workers left trash and about a case of empty beer cans in the pile (which we have since cleaned up ourselves). Additionally, on the same day the crew removed the existing (functional but deteriorating) stone steps at the back door, leaving a pile of gravel under the door. The apron required removal of about 200 sq ft of asphalt. The apron was largely completed with some minor replacement of stones left. The removed asphalt left about a 6" sharp lip at both edges, leaving the driveway mostly unusable for over a week. The crew returned on 26 July and addressed themselves to the driveway. After mostly completing the driveway, the crew left. Several promises were offered regarding having the crew return to complete the steps, but no one has appeared. Now our calls appear to be blocked as neither calls nor text messages go through. Our preference would be for the contract to be completed - build the back steps, complete restoring the stones at the bottom of the driveway, and remove the detritus and approximately 2000lb bag of sand from the driveway work. Failing that, we would seek the return of $5000 - $4500 for the unfinished steps and $500 for removal of the pile of asphalt and bag of sand.

On 30 June 2025, I signed an order to have my driveway repaved and a cement walkway replaced. The driveway was repaved and the cement walkway was replaced within a week. The work was completed. During the replacement of the walkway, one of the workers mixed or carried wet cement in one of my storm brakes. He destroyed the grass where he worked and left cement in the storm brake. It dried into a large lump. The workers also destroyed a 9 foot section of grass where they tried to mix cement. They covered the wet cement with a dirty tarp. The dirt was transferred to the cement leaving a brown tint. They left behind the dirty tarp and rebar from the original walkway plus a gas can, oil mix and a workers hat. They refused to retrieve these items despite two telephone calls to do so. They also left behind muddy foot prints and cement spots on the driveway.
