The roof leaks 4 years after they applied their "25 year GACO roof coating" for 5000 USD. We hired another roofer to check on the roof and they say they did likely not apply it properly, didn't do proper siding/flushing. The paint is peeling off, which shows they did not apply it ******* any case the company refuses to fix what they applied since it is out of labor warranty.Business Response

Hello, thank you for bringing any issues to our attention. We take all complaints very serious here at ******************************** and siding group llc. We strive for customer service and we reviewed your case. You provided the contract in this matter and it clearly states on your contract there isa 2 year labor warranty. The 2 year labor warranty applies to all workmanship as our sales manager determines how long the warranty will last. You signed a contract in 2021 and it is now 2025. We do not control the products and you are more than welcome to contact GACO company. We would gladly help you with contacting them. As stated above your contract clearly states 2 year labor warranty in which you provided, therefore we can come out and provide you a estimate to fix the leak or provide you another estimate for a new roof. Again we take all complaints very serious and we are here to help you with any further questions you may have. Thank you and have a blessed day.Customer Answer

I hired them to patch the seams of my flat roof. They were unsure of the substrate they we sealing, but were extremely confident that Gaco Patch would work. I contacted several other roofers, to no avail. They provided an estimate for $1,800.00 to patch ~ 115' of seams. Within 1 day, the product had started to peel off, however, this was past the required curing time. I called and was assured they would not cash the check and they would be out to check it out. Not surprisingly, the checked was cashed shortly there after. In conversation, they said they were going to power wash my entire deck, including the Gaco patch. When the showed up, both power wash spray heads were broken. One would assume this would have been checked at the shop prior to arriving at the job site. First thing our of his mouth was they would typically charge $,1,200 to wash my deck, that's when I knew they were not going to follow through with promises. At this point, I knew it was pointless to argue. The power was did not remove the Gaco, however, scraping it does. Needless to say, it is starting to wear from walking on it, less than 1 month after application. My main frustration is they did not clean, nor prep the surface, therefore, nothing will properly bond. It is now starting to bubble up and peel off. I have not called them, in my opinion, they should have made this right when they came back. In conversation, he let it slip that he wasn't sure if was in fact going to work. Just another of his many stories he told. I've attached the Gaco Tech Data Sheet and a picture showing the application over a dirty surface.Business Response

Hello and thank you for your concern. Gaco is a silicone based roofing product. These products are not meant to be walked on and this was made very clearly to you upon the contract signing. We do not take deposits and when checks are put in by the office staff we do not control that as you paid when you were satisfied with the job. We also came back a second time and we did power wash the seams to see if there was an adhesion issue which there was not. I pull test was completed and it passed per installation instructions. Gaco liquid seam was installed along with gaco roof coating. Again these products are not meant to be walked and our sales staff offered a new rubber roofing solution. We appreciate your concern but we have done everything per the contract and please follow the contract provided. We would be glad to install a new rubber roof and offer a discount from the coating system installed. There was no warranty givenCustomer Answer

After researching this company even further on, this was the response I expected from them. Had I discovered this info sooner, I would not have worked with this company.I was not made aware that you could not walk on it. WHY WOULD I HAVE THEM APPLY IT TO MY DECK IF IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE WALKED ON IT??? I was not provided any product literature. No information was provided on their contract.
When they came back, they admitted to not properly applying the product to the required thickness to ensure proper adhesion.
As mentioned in my initial complaint, he let it slip when they came back that he wasn't sure if it would work. Again, if I was made aware of that, I would not have had them install this product.
I do not expect them to own up to their failed installation and dishonest business practice. I'm jut glad I found that out prior to having them provide an estimate for the roof on my house.

Mr. Don made it very clear up front that the product may or may not bond we can have the Gaco rep come out at anytime but the adhesion test was done and passed and we have that test to prove it adhered. We also gave you different options. But when you on a limited income you can’t chose the cheapest option and then complain after. No you cannot walk on silicone based products without installing mats for the ProductsCustomer Answer

That is quite possibly the most ignorant reply / excuse I have ever seen. It has been made clear that they are extremely unprofessional and have extremely poor quality work. Proper instructions were not followed, nor was common sense applied. One would think at minimum, the substrate should have been cleaned prior to application. I consider this matter over. Again, after what I've read on various websites, this is what is to be expected from a company run like this.

Hello we appreciate your letter with details but we disagree with this. We do not take deposits on any jobs, this roof was installed years ago and the homeowner claims damage to the siding and house. The roof does not interfere with the siding or gutters. The homeowner is upset we couldn’t get out the next day. We are trying our best to give every customer the same respect and courtesy. We respect each clients time and we are going in order to take care of each client. Again we do not take deposits on any roofing jobs and our clients do not pay until completely satisfied. We will reach out to the client and see if we can help him out thank you and God blessCustomer Answer

Penn-Ohio roofing company replaced a portion of our roof on February 15, 2024. We paid in full on the day of install. A first leak was found on February 22nd and luckily resolved with no interior damage. On March 6th, 2024, a second leak was discovered when a significant amount of water began trickling out of an exterior doorframe into the house. The roofers did promptly show up to investigate and found that the flashing that they had installed around one of our exterior skylights was improperly installed, causing leaking into the ceiling. It is important to note that the flashing was the cause of the leak, NOT the skylight itself (the business disclaims warranty on previously installed skylights). The cause of the leak was repaired by the roofers about a week later. We do believe that the leaking has stopped. However, the leak caused a significant amount of damage to our interior drywall between the skylight & door. My husband has since been in touch with Gary many times to see about getting this damage fixed; despite being initially responsive and promising to have their contractor come out to repair the damage, they are now attempting to claim that the damage (a result of poor exterior workmanship) is not theirs to repair. We want the drywall/area restored to its original condition as it had NO damage prior to the faulty flashing installation.Business Response

Good Morning, we appreciate the the chance to respond to this complaint and we take all complaints very serious here at Penn Ohio. This is very clear and straight forward. We do have contracts and control in place. The contract clearly states :there is no warranty on skylights unless the skylights are replaced at the time of the new roof installation." The contract will be sent over via attachment. All claims are made on a actual cash value basis as well. The homeowner clearly states it was a issue with the skylights numerous times. We can't use old flashing on a skylight. Again please read the contract again and I think you will understand this is something we cant control and it is clearly in our contract. Gary also did come to an agreement to help out with the repairs and reimburse money for the repairs to the drywall out of the kindness of our hearts. Thank you and God Bless.Business Response

On 8-24-2023, I signed a contract for Penn Ohio to complete a full roof job on a commercial property I own in Franklin, PA. I was also having other work done on the property. On the day the roof job was supposedly completed, the contractor doing the other work contacted me to say that from his eye, the job had several problems. He sent pictures, and it did. I contacted the crew chief and the owner of the roofing company. The crew chief stated he would look at the job and make things right. The owner got angry. I decided to have the roof inspected. The inspection report found many problems. I sent the report to Penn Ohio. They threatened to sue me. The crew chief contacted later me and wanted to "work things out." He stated that the roofing company disagreed with part of the inspection, and that the work that was not done was not part of a full roof job, although I have had several opinions to the contrary. He no longer wanted to make things right, but wanted to sell me the unfinished work. I told him I would pay half the cost of the original roof agreement, or put the money in escrow, but that I wanted to get a third, objective opinion to resolve the conflicts between the inspection report, and the roofers own opinion. He agreed. But, that night the owner emailed me threatening to sue again. So, other than hiring an attorney, I am not sure how to resolve this issue.Business Response

Hello we are responding to the customers false reports. Penn Ohio installed a roof exactly to the contract that was signed. The only thing in the roofing project was roofing. The job was 100% completed with no money down. Upon completion of the roof the owner had a handyman guy out there pushing up on the drip edge (which we have photos) with a broom stick. The owner also wanted fascia and gutter repairs done which we never were aware of nor to we even provide an estimate for. The owner then provided her own inspection from a inspection company and advised that the ice and water was installed wrong. We provided a couple of the install instruction directly from the manufacture and provided that the inspector was actually wrong! We have since filed civil action against the owner for not paying upon completion. The inspection showed no faulty workmanship at all and we can provide the whole report. I had wind damage to my house on April 2023. I filed a claim with my insurance company and starting to get estimates for repair of my roof. One of the three companies that I contacted was PennOhio roofing. I spoke with Dustin at Penn Ohio roofing as my house needed tarping for protection. He AGREED to install a tarp that I had provided. He said insurance pays him 500 and I could pay him when I get my insurance check. I spoke to him on the phone and said I would pay him CASH now so he wouldn’t have to wait. We AGREED THAT I WOULD GIVE HIM $300 CASH (which he accepted and took that I had left for him taped to the window on my garage door) Dustin then contacted me after he was done and said he also installed another tarp on my house which I did not ask him to do (the tarp he installed was installed over a tarp that I had already installed over my garage) and he had no permission. Later in May when I informed him that he did not get the roofing job because he failed to provide me with an itemized work order; he only kept saying i know how to work with insurance companies. After learning the rejection of getting the roofing job he demanded $1250 for payment for tarping. He then sent me multiple texts demanding payment and remarking about his competitor saying that their Mexican crews do poor work and challenged their workmanship and that I would “come crawling back to him in a couple of years“. I did not respond to his text and then out of the blue a week later he sent me a text saying he will see me in civil court. I tried to make arrangements with him he is difficult, and aggressive. I refused to be extorted by him and asked him to please cease all communications with me. His response was “See you in court buddy. I just enrichment see you on 30 days.” The just of it is that he agreed to do a job for a price, accepted and took the money and added work without permission to pad the bill and engaged in a “sour grapes” attitude when he didn’t get the job.Business Response

On April 6, 2023 We discussed the cost of tarping my roof. I was quoted the price of $500. I agreed to pay this amount as soon as I received money from the Insurance company. This amount and payment of $500 was agreed to by both myself and Dustin G**** from Penn Ohio Roofing and Siding Group LLC. I asked for an estimate as I was getting several to have my roof replaced on April 6th, 11th and 19th. All Dusting would say is he works with the insurance companies. He wanted what the insurance company allowed plus my deductible. That was the only thing he would tell me. On April 28th he demanded $2250.00 since he wasn't going to get the job. He said that was the cost of the tarp. I told him we had only agreed to $500 for tarping the roof. He told me that he wanted $2250 and he could play games. I sent a cashiers check in the amount of $500 which was never picked up. I tried to settle this with a mediator but was only told that we are to far apart case closed. He told the mediator he filled out several reports for the Insurance company as they requested, which they never did. they only asked to two pictures no paper work was requested. enclosed you will find email and copy of allotted amount insurance company allowed for tarping of roof, text message from him about playing games and tracking for certified payment thru usps.Business Response

Hello we tarped the roof and took photos for the insurance company, we did all the work and then the homeowner keep the money from the insurance company. We filed civil suit against the customer because we never got paid. He hired a resolution team from mahoning valkry and he still didn’t agree. We have all text messages and photos to provide at civil suit. Again the homeowner has not paid and it is an u just enrichment case. We also filed a private criminal complaint with the first rift attorney because you are not allowed to profit from an insurance claim. Thank you

While remodeling our nursery we noticed a small water leak on the closet ceiling. We called PennOhio to have repairs made to the roof. On 7/13/20 Paul came and gave us a $2850 estimate to have the repairs made. He strongly advised us to have the roof replaced, eliminating the need for repairs, for $7,000($6500 with a military discount). We chose to have the roof replaced. On 8/5/20 the crew came to replace the roof. When they were finished my husband was walking our property and found a piece of cardboard thrown into the brush with a pile of poop on it. One of the workers had pooped on the cardboard in their work van and disposed of it on our property. We were also told after the roof was already installed that we would have to pay an extra $500 because the roof had to be double shingled. We were not given the chance to decline. I also called to ask the company for a receipt to have record of work done and I was told that they do not give receipts, and that the estimate was our receipt. We do not go into the closet with the original leak often, it wasn’t until Spring 2021 that we noticed the leak was back and spread, damaging the drywall that was just installed in the fall, and black mold was growing. We called Penn Ohio several times to have the leak looked at, it took several months for them to come. Paul came again and said the leak was simply because the workers had forgotten to caulk the dormers. By summer 2022 the leak was so bad the water was spreading down the walls to our first floor ceiling and walls. The leak in the nursery closet had become a gaping, black mold filled hole. 11/14/22 Dustin came to look at the leak and expressed that he hates when the salespeople are sent to look at roof repairs. We were given a $3,500-$4,000 quote to have the repairs made, after anticipating the work be done at no charge along with drywall repair because of their mistakes. We are disappointed and appalled by this experience and working with Penn-Ohio roofing.Business Response
Date: 05/05/2023
Hello we respect the customer opinion but the facts are totally different. We installed a new lifetime warranty roof. A warranty is covered by workmanship error and not other parts of the house. The owner physically got on the roof and provided photos and pointed out in person to the homeowner the errors in the dormers. First there was metal flashing missing on the windows which was causing water to come in, second there was gaps in the window where water was coming in, third there were holes in the siding, fourth there was j channel cut short and not installed correctly allowing water to come in along the dormers, and lastly the siding had no water proof barrier behind it. We understand that a new roof was installed but that doesn’t neglect the fact that the homeowner has failed to maintain their home in the proper manner. Photos were taken and homeowner was present to view all errors. We did give the a price to fox the siding and dormer errors and now they believe that should have been included in the roofing price. The warranty covers roofing errors, not the windows, siding, doors, kitchen, electrical, plumbing, and any other non related roofing items. Thank youCustomer Answer

Penn Ohio Roofing and I were able to come to a resolution. After I filed a complaint, the owner has been very knowledgeable and respectable about solving the problem with our leak, and we chose to use their business February 2024. The crew sent by Penn Ohio Roofing to fix our issue has been great to work with, efficient and very tidy.
