This business discriminates against Americans with disabilities. I advised the owner, **************************, that I travel with a service animal, to which he originally said "that's fine". I advised ************************** of the tasks my service animal provides. He proceeded to start asking me questions about my specific disability and how often my episodes occur and what could he expect me to do or not do on the tour. When I told ************************** that I was not comfortable disclosing any further medical information, he immediately advised that he was canceling my tour, that he had the right to refuse service to anyone. If ************************** wasn't discriminating against me due to my disability, then I'd like to know that he was questioning ALL of his clients about their medical diagnoses and personal/private details as a prerequisite for for all patrons. I think it's safe to say that the latter is much less likely. The manner in which ************************** handled this situation was beyond unprofessional and borderline illegal. I should have known not to do business with him once he asked me to cancel the tour through Viator, the website through which I originally booked, so he wouldn't lose 20% of his revenue to them for a booking fee.

A Great Oregon Wine Tour Response

            10/21/2021

We are deeply sorry you feel discriminated against, that was not nor is it ever our intention.Unfortunately, when correspondence is done through text messaging and not verbal conversation, tone and intent are always subject to each partys interpretation. We have taken guests with disabilities on wine tours and we do inquire to the nature of the disability, not to determine if we want to take them on tour or not, but to know what accommodations will need to be made. Say a guest is a stroke victim, they *** not be wheelchair bound but *** need access to wineries where not a lot of walking or stairs are involved. We believe it is no invasion of privacy to inquire, just our way of making sure our guests have the best experience possible. On all of our booking platforms, VIATOR, our own website, etc.. is a NOTES feature where guests can inform us of any dietary restrictions, requested wineries and of special needs like having a Service Animal. There was no indication on either of your bookings that there would be a service animal with you, that came up later. We could have addressed it sooner. As the owner indicated in your text messaging that he and his partner would be out of town during the time of your scheduled tour and they are the ones that typically guide tours with special circumstance such as yours. Normally that tour would have to be a private tour. He also didnt want to put the responsibility on the drivers available during their absence of having a larger dog than we normally allow on our vehicles and that they *** need to respond to any adverse situations that *** occur. Theyre simply wine tour guides.Clearly you and the owner were at a battle of words and emotions so refunding your money and cancelling the tour was the right thing to do. He was sure at that point you did not want to do business with him anymore anyway.Yes, the owner did ask if you would mind canceling your reservation through VIATOR and rebook through our website because VIATOR does take 20% right off the top. You could have said no and that would have been fine, we don't pressure anyone into doing that. there is nothing underhanded by making that request. We are a family owned business and giving away that much money is a big hit for us. From time to time we will make those requests.I sincerely hope this settles some of your frustrations and assumptions about who we are and how we conduct ourselves and our business.
