I backed a project months ago called Moonrakers: Titan. They sent out the backer survey to collect addresses way too early, I filled out the information back in August 2022, it had a deadline to be completed by October 2022. Here we are in March of 2023 and I've moved. As soon as I had confirmed my new address, I reached out to IV Studio, the creators of Moonrakers and asked them to update my shipping address and they basically told me that there was no way they could do anything. My options were to basically stalk my old residence (they assume it was within a distance that I even could) or wait and see if maybe it gets sent back to them at which time they can forward it to me for cost of shipping. It's just a terrible, terrible company and customer service. They're essentially telling me that they're going to steal my $114. If they collected the shipping information by October, then they should have been ready to ship then. Since they weren't ready, they shouldn't have been collecting that information so early, and if they were they needed to have some way to make adjustments since things do happen in people's lives over a period of 6 months.

Thanks for reaching out. Project creators are responsible for the fulfillment of rewards once their project has been funded. If *********** hasn't received a response, we'd be happy to reach out to the project creator on their behalf. We haven't been able to locate an account linked to the email listed on this request or a pledge on this project associated with this name. If *********** submits a support request via our *********** using their Kickstarter email, then we'll be happy to help open the lines of communication with the project creator. Thanks!

Kickstarter project: CarrGenie: Redefined Wireless ***************** Auto Adapter ************************************************************************************************************************************* I sent them $89USD (9-19-2022 transaction date) to back this project that was suppose to ship in December 2022. It never shipped and I still do not have my product. There are tons of complaints, including mine, about this item and many people got their money back through their credit card company. I decided to wait longer but when I called my credit card company yesterday, they told me I only had 90 days to open a dispute and that it's too late. They suggested the BBB. I am just asking that they refund the $89USD ($121.41 CAD) that I paid for a product that I was supposed to get in December 2022, but never did get.Thank You.

    Hi ***,

I'm sorry that your experience with this creator wasnt a positive one.

When a project ends successfully, we collect all funds and disburse them directly to the creator so that they can get started on their creative idea. As such, Kickstarter is not able to facilitate refunds on behalf of a creator.

Its important to keep in mind that if the funds have already gone towards bringing the project to life, a refund may not be possible at this time.

Kickstarter takes the privacy of our users seriously, so we don't provide a creator's contact information directly to backers. However, a creators verified name can be publicly found in the creator bio of their project.

Kickstarter's Terms of Use outline the responsibilities of backers and creators. If you believe a creator is not fulfilling these responsibilities, we recommend reporting the project from the project page, which will flag it to our Trust & Safety team for review. If you believe further legal action is appropriate, please talk to an attorney about how to proceed.

We hope that backers will only consider the above options in cases where they believe that a creator has not made a good faith effort to complete their project as promised. If you havent yet messaged the creator through Kickstarter, you can find the steps for how to do so in this help center article.

I funded a project on *************** called "******** - A Thunderbolt 3 Dock with 8TB Storage Boost" by a company called "********" (************) for **$ ***** (approximately $714 US Dollars). The project was successfully funded on July 4, 2022 with an estimated delivery of October 2022. The companies profile on *************** states that "The ******** team is made up of ***** and ******* for design, ****** for sourcing and ******* for management. We take care of everything from prototyping to writing campaign! Even though we have worked in the industry for years, we remain open to new ideas and never settle on the mediocre. When we see an opportunity, we will act fast and give it a try." Sadly, neither anyone at ******** or Kickstarter is working to reverse the credit card charges paid to this obviously fraudulent company. There have been no replies or solutions provided by ******** or Kickstarter. I am extremely unhappy with both this project and Kickstarter in general.

Kickstarter has a current campaign labeled "NixieX: the Authentic IN-12 Nixie Tube Clock and Speaker"(********************************************************************************************************************. I have already reported the project because there is ample evidence of a scam. Right now it is still sitting at $40,000 of funding. NixieX has a list of similarities with two different campaigns which both ended with no fulfillment to backers. "Nyx: Your Ultimate IN16 Nixie Tube Watch" : ************************************************************************************************** "VULCAN: A Nixie watch" : ******************************************************************** The similarities include:1. All three companies claiming to be based around *********, ******.2. Nixie Tube Projects 3. A "quick display mode" on both nixie watch projects not found on other watches of the kind 4. Headers in the Kickstarter description category which are plagiarized straight from the other campaigns. The "NixieX" project has the exact timeline of the "Nyx" project.5. No profiles, background information, or company information. Not only this but Kickstarter is supposed to be for new projects. The "NixieX" product is already being sold on AliExpress by a different company based in ***** known as "Mi-Joy". It can already be delivered in one-week meaning the product already exists, or is a scam.Link: ************************************************************************************ On further inspection, this company on AliExpress also happens to sell the nixie watches that backers never recieved from the other failed campaigns. On AliExpress, if you check the Business License you can see more information.************************************************************************************************************************************** I would like Kickstarter to take down this project, as many others, including me, have already been scammed by this entity.

Hi There,I backed pledges to two Kickstarter campaigns in June 2022 from two different manufacturers. One was due to ship in August, the other September both from *********. But both campaigns have turned out to be scams. Both provided convincing updates at first but then just stopped communicating in October without fulfilment, or explanation of why not. One of the campaigns has been deactivated by Kickstarter but without any communication from them about the seemingly fraudulent nature of the creators. The campaigns were:*MAGIC SSD Cards: Next Generation in Portable SSD Storage - Creator: *************, pledge: **$2,345, backer 731, June 9th 2022 ************************************************************************************************************************* *Dockcier - A Thunderbolt 3 Dock with 8TB Storage Boost - Creator: Dockier, Pledge: **$ *****, backer 59, June 9th 2022 ********************************************************************************************************************** This is the first time I've backed anything through Kickstarter and given two campaigns were immediately scams thatand had no apparent goal other than to wait for the funds to clear then go offline, it seems that there is complete inadequate protection for backers and the system is one of a complete invitation to commit sizeable fraud easily, with absolute impunity. This doesn't seem equitable or justifiable.Kickstarter are not transparent with what measures and checks they have in place to vet creators and their responses are just evasive and bot like. However, I believe they are still happy to take their percentage of the campaign despite approx 1.5k people having been defrauded hundreds of dollars each without due accountability.I'm currently looking at options to claw back the funds that were pledged and am beginning the process by making contact with yourself before then making enquiries with my credit card company.Yours faithfully,*************************

    Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. When a creator is experiencing unexpected delays, or struggling to complete their project as promised, we expect them to be open and honest with their backers.

Our Community Support and Trust & Safety teams continually monitor Kickstarter's system and review all reports we receive from our community. Some actions that we may take as a result include:

-Reaching out to creators using the contact information they provided when they launched their project, and reminding them to keep their backers in the loop with more regular project updates and responding to backer messages.
-Revoking creator privileges, including the ability to run another campaign on Kickstarter, until rewards have been fulfilled or an update has been posted for backers outlining exactly how funds have been used and what is stopping them from completing their project as promised.
-Suspending or restricting account privileges if there is sufficient evidence of abuse against our system or the trust of others. That being said, projects are never completely deleted from the site for transparency reasons.

We track creators' fulfillment histories as comprehensively as possible - from minor delays to more serious complications - to help us ensure creator accountability. When we receive a report for a project, we collate feedback from the community of backers, along with data across any other projects, to review and, if necessary, take action. We also adjust our policies based on feedback from backers and creators.

While we can't speak to the nature of the specific actions weve taken in this case, we're constantly working on improving our vetting process for creators and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

On July 5, 2022 I backed a campaign on Kickstarter for a digital watch. See the link for the campaign here:********************************************************************************************************** Based on Kickstarter's explicit assurances of the due dilligence is conducts before allowing any campaign to use it's platform, I felt confident that Kickstarter had thoroughly vetted the campaigners, identified only as "***** Team", allegedly based in *********. See Kickstarter's public assurances for what it will and won't allow:******************************************** Note that Kickstarter assures that "Projects and backer statistics must be honest and clearly presented", and "we require projects to show backers a prototype of what theyre making, and we prohibit the use of misleading imagery." The video used to entice pledges is largely made up of CGI, which Kickstarter expressly prohibits. Further more, Kickstarter permitted this disclaimer by the campaigners:"If we run into a production problem, we promise to be fully transparent and let you know what's happening as we work to solve any problems that arise."Any reasonable interpretation of Kickstarter's rules would lead to an understanding that a statement such as "we promise to be fully transparent" was "honest" and believable and would be upheld. Neither is true. Approximately two weeks after taking my pledge of US$ 109, and more than $50,000 from hundreds of other duped backers, "***** Team" went silent. Nothing has been heard from them since September 2022. Kickstarter has washed it's hands of the fraud. Perhaps because it took 5% for itself, as part of it's deal with the anonymous and unreachable "***** Team". I believe the entire "project" was a fraud. I do not expect that a pledge is the same as "buying" a product, but given neither ***** Team nor Kickstarter have offered any explanation after months of silence. At this point I want my money returned due to fraud.

In early 2020 Kickstarter launched a campaign for a watch. The Phantom by ******* Watches/Hamtun watches. It was successfully funded and raised almost $50,000. Communication continued for a bit then nothing. It's been over a year now with no word from the ***************** or Kickstarter. No updates and no product delivered. **** and **** are nothing more than crooks I'm out of my $175, it's whatever but this is meant to be a formal warning for others to not do business with Kickstarter. Crowdfunding is a good thing in my opinion but the fact they do absolutely nothing to people creating projects raising thousands of dollars and vanishing is beyond bad business practices.

This company is a SCAM! They list projects for backers to back and they collect their money upfront but do little to nothing to assist backers nor are their sufficient guardrails in place to protect backers. I have backed numerous projects and have contacted kickstarter SEVERAL times regarding no communication from creator of project ad to its status as it is several months late. Kickstarter simply instructs us to keep contacting creator. Numerous people are being scammed out of their money and kickstarter is a party to this. In the same way that they collect their fees up front, kickstarter should put guidelines in place that prohibit all funds from being released until milestones are met. When a project requires $****** to start and they raise 10 times that amount. Kickstarter should only release the initial ****** needed until an actual product is completed then further payments released when shipping is to commence. No different than a construction loan. This way if it fails, backers have a pool of money to receive partial funds back, TOTAL SCAM THAT IS TAKING PLACE!!

Thank you for flagging this issue.

Creators are responsible for their own projects. This includes fulfilling rewards, communicating with backers, issuing refunds if they can, and keeping their community informed on the status of their project. If a creator is struggling to complete their project as promised, we expect them to post an update outlining exactly what it is thats stopping them and how funds have been used.  In this case, we've reached out to the project creator multiple times. Unfortunately, we've not heard back yet.

When a creator launches a project on Kickstarter, theyre inviting people to form a contract with them. Anyone who backs a project is accepting that creators offer, and forming that contract. Kickstarter is not a part of this contract, it is a direct legal agreement between a creator and their backers. More information about this can be found in our Terms of Use, which are communicated when backers pledge to support a project.

Our Terms can serve as a basis for legal recourse if a creator doesnt fulfill their obligations under the agreement. We hope that backers will only use this provision in cases where they feel that a creator has not made a good faith effort to complete their project as promised.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Kickstarter has not answered why they don't review their policies to protect investors more. Kickstarter gets their cut of the money up front and takes absolutely no risk. Why is all the monies released immediately to creator as opposed to similar to a construction loan, creator is given percentages of monies upon completing milestones which decreases the likelihood of creators absconding with funds and not contacting investors. As Kickstarter stated, they too were unsuccessful in getting creator to respond to them but they are not affected in any way if the creator never contacts them as they already received their piece of the monetary pie. Kickstarters way of doing it inherently increases the risk for investors and they know that full well but figure since they are only the middleman who already got paid, who cares about the investor. I will contact the ** office in my state to see if there is a high percentage of issues like this. If there is then Kickstarter needs to be more transparent with these numbers

    Thanks for the follow-up.

Any time you pledge to a project, Kickstarter presents you with the Terms of Use, as well as a checkbox acknowledging that you understand that pledging is not the same as buying an item.

Backing a project is a direct legal agreement between a creator and their backers. Kickstarter can't force a creator to ship out a reward or issue a refund. That's entirely their responsibility as per our Terms of Use.

These very Terms can serve as a basis for legal recourse if a creator doesnt fulfill their obligations under the agreement.

This complaint is related to the campaign presented on the platform as "Dockcier - A Thunderbolt 3 Dock with 8TB Storage Boost". Kickstarter is continuing to host this campaign despite being created by a group of scammers. Kickstarter enabled this group to pocket money from 782 individuals for a total in the range of ~******* CAD. Personally, I am out of pocket for ~160 CAD (backer number 396). Any contact with the Creator resulted in nothing, no response, no email, and no refund.Kickstarter has taken action to reach out to the Creator, and it, too, received no response as I (the backer) did. Kickstarter should and can do, at the very least, **** this project page as a scam to prevent other innocent individuals from paying more to the scammer. Instead, Kickstarter allows this project to continue to accept new orders. This is something any credible business should do to protect the consumers. On the other hand, how Kickstarter is doing today can only trigger backers like ** to assume that Kickstarter has benefited from this scam project.

    Business Response

    Hi there,

Thank you for bringing this to Kickstarters attention. We expect creators to post updates regularly to keep their backers in the loop, and were sorry to see that ********************* has not been doing this.

We have reached out via email to encourage the creator to post a new update and ask that they check their Kickstarter inbox for any unanswered messages. Our goal is to open the lines of communication and encourage them to establish a better cadence for posting updates.

Weve also restricted the creators access to the Spotlight page tools, and disabled the button link until the creator addresses backers concerns around communication.

We understand how a lack of communication can be a cause for concern and we really appreciate you reaching out. The creative process can be unpredictable, but we hope it is ultimately worthwhile for you as a backer.

    [Your Answer Here]

My complaint has NOT been resolved because the Creator is not answering messages and email when asking for a refund. Since it's Kickstarter that collected money on the Creator behalf then, I am expecting the refund to processed on the Creator behalf. I will not settle for less. I still have the option to reach my credit card company to force a refund as my last recourse. I hope Kickstarter do the best for it's user base. Without users, there is no more backed project.

Until now, I have been scammed 8 times on the Kickstarter platform. I am very ****** off by Kickstarter poor cut and paste respond communication all my inquiry get handled. Not care is given to it's user base. When asking ******************** to ask the Creator for an update on our behalf, nothing is ever happening. Why Kickstarter doesn't have ******** communication standard or why Kickstarter doesn't have a payment schedule based on milestones reached? If the Creator default, then Kickstarter can at least partially proceed with a refund.

Here the project list project I got scammed with how it was dealt with:

    1. ThunderMag: The World's First Thunderbolt3 & 100W MagSafe - Deactivated after a long thread of communication showed that the Creator was selling the product outside Kickstarter before fullfilling it obligation.

    2. AirZen | Multifunctional Device for Personal Airspace - Never got deactivated. Creator still can freely use the platform.

    3. El ***** de *** Muertos - Expert Edition / ****** Creates - Never got seactivated. No clue what is happening there.

    4. Alpha Socks - The Ultimate Merino Wool Copper Outdoor Socks - Deactivated after a long time. We never knew what happened here other that socks were produced and sold at an auction.

    5. Bullet SSD: Tiny & High Speed Drive - Fits On Your Key-Chain - Deactivated after a long time. It tooks more then a year to get this scam stopped.

    6. Solar-Powered Rechargeable Battery with USB ************* Deactivated. It tooks more then a year to get this scam stopped.

    7. ArkHub : 10-In-1 Thunderbolt Dock + High Speed SSD Enclosure - Deactivated.

    8. Dockcier - A Thunderbolt 3 Dock with 8TB Storage Boost - Deactivated. Finally after a huge user push.

    Hi *****,

Thank you for following up with us. We're sorry that supporting these projects hasn't been a better experience for you.

When creators launch a project on Kickstarter, they have complete ownership over their project, this includes rewards and fulfillment. Additionally, we try to minimize risk through all-or-nothing funding, which allows the collective voice of the people to decide which projects reach their goal. Pledging and backing are not buying. You are not purchasing an item when you decide to pledge towards a project on Kickstarter you're helping the creator to create something new.

Sadly we dont have better news to share with you regarding these projects at this time. However, please rest assured that we will be continuing to monitor these situations.

Trust is an integral part of the relationship between creators and backers. When a creator is experiencing unexpected delays, or struggling to complete their project as promised, we expect them to be open and honest with their backers. We're sorry to see that you have not had this experience.

We will continue to monitor the situation with these creators and thank you for your feedback on how we can improve. We will share your suggestions of making due diligence process details available, revisiting the funding model, reviewing minimum funding goals, monthly communication requirements, and response time, with the rest of the team. Reports from our community help us to ensure creator accountability, and to make sure that Kickstarter is a beneficial place for everyone.

    Best,
    Kickstarter Support

I backed a Dockcier project on Kickstarter on July 25th, 2022.Here is the link to the project: ************************************************************************************************************************* cost me ** ************************************************************ Nov 2022. But nothing happened so far. I suspect this project is a scam, and I asked Kickstater to contact the creator to provide an update at least five times. Kickstarter asked me to contact the creator and don't want to help much. The worse thing is that this project is still ongoing on another website Indiegogo: ***************************************************************************************** can't accept Kickstarter's carelessness, this is a project on their website, and they suppose to have ***************** with the creator. At least, if it is a scam Kickstart should let people know. Other than doing nothing to make more people be cheated and lose their money.I kindly ask you to request Kickstarter to provide all backers with a response about this project and make the products delivered to backers. With Best Regards,**************

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to send us your thoughts. Im sorry to hear that backing this project has not been a better experience for you and the other backers.

Our Community Support and Trust & Safety teams monitor Kickstarter's system and review reports received from backers when projects do not go as expected. If there is sufficient evidence of abuse against our system or trust of others, we revoke or suspend account privileges. This includes the ability to run another campaign on Kickstarter until the creator has made a good faith effort to complete their project as promised.

Weve reached out to this creator using the contact information they provided when they launched their project and have asked them to address backers concerns. While we can and do enforce our Terms of Use, we cant force anyone to complete their project.

We will continue to monitor the situation with this project and the creator.

    Best,
    Kickstarter

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

    [Your Answer Here]

     Dear Sir/*****,

I reached out to Kickstarter in Dec 11th, Kickstarter said they would contact the creator to provide an update. But there was nothing after one month. I pushed Kickstarter to provide me if they heard anything from the creator three time, but ***** replied me.

So I asked them again on Jan 9th, they told me the same thing, just wait, and wait. And Kickstarter won't do anything.

Here is the thing, this project is still runing on another website, and all signs show it is a scam. The creator promised to deliver the product in Nov 2022, it is almost three months nothing happened. The last message sent by the creator was Oct 28th. I also called the creater, noone pick up. If you look at their website ********************. There is nothing else expect the product introduction. No company information, address, and phone number. I could only find a phone number from ******** from the receipt they provided.

If Kickstater kept doing nothing, there will be more people lose their money, and this is so so bad.

I am attaching my communication with Kickstarter on Dec 11th and Jan 9th.

    With Best Regards,

    Dear Sir and Madam,

The answer from Kickstarter is based on a copy and paste template. They always replies to backers like this.

What we need is a solution. They told me the same thing in Dec 2022, and said that they have reached out to the creator, but more than a month now they could not get an answer from the creator.

The creator promised to deliver the product in Nov 2022. It is now 3 months overdue. The creator was disappeared and not answer to backers questions since Oct 28th 2022.

It is Kickstarter's responsibility to let all backers know that this project is a scam. Or give an answer to all backers how would they handle this situation. It is time to let other not being cheated by this creator.

Thank you and I hope you can request Kickstater to announce that it is a scam.

    With Best Regards,

    Hi there,

Thank you for following up with us. I'm sorry that your experience with this project wasnt a positive one.

Our mission is to provide a place where anyone can bring creative projects to life. That said, our biggest expectation of creators when their project isnt going the way they expected, is that they communicate this honestly with their backers. Were saddened to see that in this instance that hasnt happened.

We try to minimize risk through all-or-nothing funding, which allows the collective voice of the people to decide which projects reach their goal. Our Trust & Safety team also reviews projects to make sure they adhere to Our Rules, additionally we support creators as they work through their projects, practice careful governance, and use anti-fraud filtering.

In the situation where projects dont come together as planned, we make ourselves available to creators to help however we can, and we encourage them to be as open as possible with their backers about the obstacles that they are facing. Sadly, despite our best efforts, sometimes projects will fail.

As a platform were always learning and looking for ways to make sure expectations are appropriately set for our backer community.

    Best,

    Kickstarter
