I received a damaged stylus from LP Gear. Upon returning it for a replacement, I was informed that the damage was not a manufacturing defect, and that therefore, according to their policy, they were not liable for replacement. They also told me that I did not pack the item properly for its return, but I had packed it exactly as I had received it. They offered me a 10% discount on my next order. My order was for a LP Gear-branded replacement stylus for an Ortofon LM20 cartridge, which I have owned since the 1980s and use on my 1970s vintage Dual turntable. I know how to handle delicate vintage equipment, and have installed multiple Ortofon styli over the years without incident. I definitely did not apply the "front-end trauma" that forced the needle out of position, which they determined, as the sole arbiters, voided their warranty. The Ortofon LM20 replacement stylus currently costs over $200. I could buy a comparable-quality new cartridge for half that amount. I was hoping that LP-Gear's would be a suitable substitution that would allow me to keep using my vintage gear. Instead, I am out its entire $169 cost (plus shipping in both directions). I do not recommend a company that has such a narrow policy defining its warranty (or, basically, lack thereof).

Our Terms and Conditions, located on our website, are very specific and clearly explained regarding damage done by the customer and how those return requests will be handled.  Unfortunately, the damage done to this stylus was absolutely not a manufacturer defect and did not leave our facility in this condition.  We perform a 3-step inspection prior to shipping, and we would not have shipped an item damaged in this way.  Product was not returned to us in the same manner as it was packed for the customer, as instructed for the return.  The item was not secure in the jewel case, as the supplied foam was not utilized properly.  There was actually a piece of the foam completely missing.  By not packing the stylus correctly, as instructed in the return authorization, it was loose to bounce around the case.  Because of the delicate nature of these items, our return policy is strict and enforced.  We cannot issue a refund or send a replacement every time a customer damages their item, and our return policy is agreed to upon ordering from our website.  We have been in business for over 30 years, and our inspections are done by highly qualified staff.  If there is any doubt at all regarding damage, we are very gracious to our customers.  There was no doubt for this return that it was not a manufacturer defect.

I wouldn't recommend LP Gear. Even if what you order is shipped, there is no guarantee it's what you need. After buying a record player, I went ahead and bought a needle and belt from LP Gear because I read good things about them. Still haven't put the needle on but I can only imagine that'll be a headache when I do. I did try to use the belt when the original started slipping though. Despite the LP Gear website saying it was for this specific model, it wasn't and caused speed instability. I had to buy a slight used one elsewhere for nearly half the price and it works flawlessly now. LP Gear won't respond to emails unless you file a complaint through a 3rd party (Triple B or PP). Anyway, the belt had to be three or more inches short causing serious problems. They also only offer a 20 day return policy so that's impossible unless again 3rd parties are involved. I just hope I can find belts elsewhere from here on out because LP Gear is not reliable. I spent the last 3 - 4 days trying everything to get the turntable to work correctly with LP Gear's supposedly perfect replacement belt. The only solution was waiting for the other belt to arrive and use it. 100% works now. I am out $17 or more and stuck with a piece of rubber that will never be useful for anything.

After purchasing a Technics SL-5 turntable on **** recently I wanted to upgrade the old Audio Technica cartridge, so after a little online research, I selected the LP Gear T4P REFERENCE SERIES VML phono cartridge as my best bet. LPGear packed and shipped my order via Priority mail in 24 hours, and it arrived in Hawaii just 2 days later, in pristine condition. Running this cartridge through a Schiit Mani-2 phonostage into a Hafler SE-100 preamp and NAD 2400PE Amplifier, the results are nothing short of stunning! The cart & Shibata stylus delivers amazing sound. Dead silent between tracks, with a wide and deep soundstage, impressive imaging ability, and deep but tight bass down to the subsonic range, both male and female vocals have a 'you're there' presence, with incredibly well articulated high frequencies. Tracking at 1.5 grams is flawless. My system sounds more alive and captivating now than any I have owned in the past. I highly recommend this cartridge and stylus combination for any vinyl system with a turntable using a T4P cartridge. The value for cost ratio is through the roof.
